The Xbox experience

I have both PC and Xbox and do not see this being the case for me.

I’m not entirely sure I agree with this.

The limitations generally surround the known inability to run external code. Given that, then, we don’t see certain add-ons. We are also semi-restricted to known compatible peripherals.

I don’t see how these restrictions really affect any 3rd party devs, beyond simply not being able to support the platform and restricting their add-ons to PC-only.

The biggest issue is the inability for 3rd parties to develop/test their add-ons on an actual Xbox. All of their work is done via PC running an Xbox emulator. That was what caused the WASM issues with the DC-6 to be missed. Microsoft is not porting anything here. All the development work for Xbox is done by the 3rd party developers themselves. They have the ability to submit separate Xbox and PC versions of their add-ons, should that be necessary.

I did see a post some time ago about one of the third party devs who bought a Series S specifically for pre-release testing. I don’t know how they were able to do this, but perhaps there is a way that has been opened up.

It is my understanding that QA from a quality/performance perspective is not the scope of the testing done at Xbox Labs when an add-on is submitted. It is my understanding that they are testing for compliance to very specific submission guidelines. This would include things like localization of text, correct keyframe images, no guns or or other violations of the sim’s user/age rating, etc. They aren’t there to vet the quality of the add-ons.
