I am a big fan of Microsoft Flight sim and have owned them all and in the past there was always a guide book which would introduce you to all the new features and with 2024 this is needed please include a pdf guide for features and settings
And provide some info as to what the command actually does, versus just repeating the command name as the description.
File this under āthey donāt make em like they used toā.
A detailed guide on the settings would be helpfulā¦with explanations for each setting and what it doesā¦not just a repetition of the setting name. The list posted by Microsoft was helpful but lacked considerable detail.
Include every setting name⦠what it really doesā¦how it interacts with the aircraft. Note which settings have been removed, added, replaced or deprecated.
It would take a day or so for a small team to create the document and save hundreds of hours for frustrated simmers.
With everything in flux, and so much that is non-obvious, the devs may not be sure themselves.
And devs hate writing documentation.
As a former ādeveloperā (not Microsoft) I agree writing documentation is a pain, but also part of the role. Documentation not only helps users but fellow devs.
With a project the size of MS24 there is a project management team and you can be sure that each and every setting is planned and documented internally. The project management team needs this information, the coders and devs need this information⦠even third party developers can benefit from this information. The complexity of the program would force this documentation, even if changes are ongoing.
It just needs to be put in a form the user can read and understand. It is not a formidable task. Yes, you can say there are other bugs that need to be fixed and should take priority, but communication can solve many a dilemmaā¦something MS24 lacks.
One of the lessons I learned as an applications developer, (in the days when documentation was included with every application and update) is that users appreciate good documentation, understand the need for change and updates, and are quick to accept and apply changes when they are clearly explained.
Dude, flight Sim 2024 is simply unplayable. There needs to be a complete rework of that entire game⦠like I donāt know what the devs were thinking when they released this game, but it is completely unbelievable. Iāve played 2024 only three times and every time I just throw my hands up. The planes are completely unflyable, what on earth were they thinking and switching up the controls? Why canāt they just keep what they had in 2020 as far as Xbox controls go?? And then lastly, I tried to fly the F18 and I get this stupid throttle detent message. Absolutely utterly ridiculous or the worst flight Sims Iāve ever playedā¦
You know, Iād like to believe that is the case. But based upon some of the bugs Iāve seen, Iām not sure any more.
For example, in the Radio settings there are two entries for āComm 1 Swapā. They are 5 or 6 lines apart. The first one listed does not work but the 2nd one does, but only if the first one is unassigned. Assign anything to the first one, and neither works.
Or take the ATC panel command. āToggle ATC panelā opens the panel but does not close it. Ironically, āOpen Communication Panelā toggles it open and closed. So ātoggleā only opens and āopenā toggles.
How these kind of bugs got past any level of review is a mystery to me.
I agree. There definitely are some dubious control choices, some setting bugs, and some setting inconsistencies. Hopefully they will be addressed through patches.
I guess the point I was trying to get across is that there is a plan (hopefully). Somewhere the intended operations of the settings are documented and this information could be passed on to the users.
Perhaps the reason it hasnāt been addressed is there are just too many control inconsistencies (read bugs). In order to document these settings, they would have to admit to the existing errors which I am sure they want to avoid.
Dudeā¦The sim seems to be unplayable for some, but not for all. There are a lot of problems and bugs I agree. On the other hand, for some, the game is playable. It can depend on which aircraft you choose and what your expectations from the sim are/were. Fortunately, as many have mentioned, there still is MS2020.
I tend to be an optimist. Some bugs will be fixed and hopefully, at some time in the future MS2024 will meet some or most of our expectations. It will never be perfect. It will never meet the expectations of everyone.
I hope for your sake that it will at some point allow you to enjoy the new sim.
That is a understatement.
Probably true, but I am hopeful.
I would like to pose a problem to developers to keep in mind for the next possible upgrade versions of msfs 2024. Since the transition from msfs 2020 to 2024, the configuration menu has seen a notable complication both for the increase in governable functions and for the possibility of assigning a specific customization to each aircraft. There are hundreds of selectable commands and, although they have been organized into fairly homogeneous categories, the adoption of language versions other than English aeronautical terminology makes it very difficult to understand who does what.
It would therefore be appropriate to have a better guide (also graphical relating to the buttons in the cockpit) to assign the right commands to the buttons and axes of the peripherals. Furthermore, the export and import functions of the configurations would be essential to facilitate the exchange between users and their management.
With all kinds of respect but imho itās unfair to judge this simulator after only 3 flights.
I agree that MSFS2024 had several unconveniences right after release but since SU1 it got much better.
Another thing: if you like to fly fighterjets like the F-18, DCS is the way to go.
Happy
with all due respect to you, iām not judging anything or anyone after 3 flights, iām just suggesting tidying up that big mess of settings, since it was decided to throw away the 2020 presets to make room for new controls. All this because despite my three years of flying on the 2020, iām going crazy with buttons and axes instead of flying in the sky. mine was just a suggestion of good management.
