There was absolutely no need for the 2024version Asobo created . O.k the need for a new revenue source after 4 years is understandable . But they could have just say , every new feature is going to be released under a paid expansion pack , only users with the paid pack going to receive new features for a year or so . ( so they can charge some money every single year ) The game engine is the same , they only remade the U.I , and made the whole sim sit on the servers … Every single new thing they added would work fine in 2020 version . Now they work with 2 dev teams , and they going to start the 2024 trouble shooting where 2020 started 4 years ago . And the streaming down the massive data needed from the servers 24/7 is just a pipedream . They could have made 2020version a lot better with a lot less effort . Now we gonna have 2 unfinished bug ridden sim … one slowly fazed out never to reach it’s full potential , the other slowly improved upon but destined to the same faith as the old version … while they are basically the same game … !! Makes no sense …
Ok… I suppose there’s:
- The underpinning need to move the sim to the cloud to cope with growing file sizes.
- The engagement offered by interactivity of Career Mode and other activities.
Those would be sensible reasons. (Implementation we could debate)
Completely ignoring the fundamental changes which have significantly improved threaded performance for CPUs.
AFAIK the game engine is NOT the same in 2024. Supposedly the limitations of the old 2020 (FSX) engine was a primary reason for developing 2024 and a brand new engine.
msfs 2024 has the very same game engine , they only tweaked the cpu multicore performance .
Not true, but if you have a source to prove otherwise then please do share it
It has also given Xbox users a career mode that could only be done with a spreadsheet managed entirely outside of the game for MSFS2020.
If I understand correctly, the official Flight Planner will track planes on Xbox, if that is true then that is another option that isn’t available on MSFS2020.
what "fundamental " changes ?? Yes they improved upon multicore cpu efficiency , but nothing is fundamentally new . msfs2024 performance still has the same limitations , only a bit spread out .
And an awesome reason to come back to 2024 when 2020 had lost me due to boredom, frankly.
nah, the only real reason they wanted to keep most files on the servers is antipiracy . 2024 is not that of an improvement in texture quality , they could have just stick with the 2020’s data streaming level easily but streaming improved photogrammetry .
You can quibble about the reasons.
MS/A clearly thought there were some and here’s the evolved sim before us.
No I mean a Career Mode, just like I typed. MSFS2020 is a video game and it works on the Xbox Series consoles. MSFS2024 is a video game and it works on the Xbox Series consoles. So that didn’t change.
However your comment also feels like it is bait for you to start an argument. You won’t find one here.
that is unfortunately the new direction Asobo turns the “sim” into . More like a script based arcade game . Solo missions in a controlled environment … If they open up the whole thing , multiplayer missions and using different air assets in unrestricted locations … than yes , that would be great
I’ve been enjoying MSFS since the late 1980’s and look forward to continuing to do so on my Xbox. Different flyers enjoy differing levels of complexity and immersion.
using you own common sense would be the starting point . Just think . Why would microsoft want to increase their server usage ( and the expenses related to it ) for a game , 100 fold , unless they see more profit ?? Or rather less loss ? They have seen all paid add ons , even the encrypted ones , turning up sooner or later on the sharing sites . The only real revenue they had after the initial game release was revenue from the add ons !! Solution ? Keep the files on the servers ! Bulletproof .
So you think they’re simply lying about the intention to allow people to download and install content?
Source please!
I think we’re all just frusterated with the state of the sim. If they would have done it right and it wasn’t released in an alpha state everyone would have been happy. They tried to do too much and fell way short. I would have rather they just improved the sim and I would have been happy to pay. But they released a broken sim that will be a good year to fix. For me I didn’t buy it and I don’t plan to buy it until I see most things are fixed. The state it’s in is just too frustrating for me. I’ll stick with 2020 and am even downloading the Xplane demo just because , why not
Not necessarily . 3dr party devs are up in arms too , since they used Asobo’s content , if nothing else for reverse engineering , so they understand what is what . But they not going to allow any "paid add ons " by Asobo /microsoft , to be downloaded totally . They see how easy is (relatively ) to break the local encryption . They going to keep those files on the servers . They will have to release none premium content for the sake of the 3rd party devs , that is for sure .
Have you even played the game then? Are you just reading the forums and basing the game off of the complaints in here?
