Things to do before updating to the beta (PC)

Here are a few things I would recommend doing before updating your simulator, if you have the time:

  • Change your packages path away from the default, and if you have the extra disk space, back up all official game content to a different location (using 7-Zip fast compression mode for example). This will provide extra protection against having to redownload all game content upon opting out of the beta.

  • Get a performance baseline so that you can compare performance after the update. Use developer mode FPS graphs and/or programs such as CapFrameX and MSI Afterburner hardware monitoring. (Make note of the airport, route, plane, weather, time of day, graphics settings, etc so that your benchmark can be accurately replicated later.)

  • Take screenshots of your favorite scenery so that you can make image quality comparisons after the update. (Again note your graphics settings, etc.)

This way, if you notice better/worse performance or image quality after the update, you’ll have some extra information to reflect on, and perhaps share with the community and MSFS team if necessary.

Please feel free to write in your own tips as well. Good luck and have fun everybody!

I would add to make a copy of the packages path:

Then you can easily switch between SU8 and SU9b
