It depends what aircraft you fly. If it was a Cessna 172 simulator and it was the only aircraft available it would be a 10/10
But it’s not, in airliners some of the time it’s 5/10 and other times 8/10
It’s definately improving and IMO better than 2020 in some parts, but lacking in others.
Once we get some legit 3rd party planes in 2024 where the Devs know what they are doing we will see greatness. The only thing holding a candle to 2020 is the fleet of 3rd party greatness, which at this point in time, none are available on 2024 Xbox except the Chinook and a few GA props
Fs2020 can run 50-60 fps on xbox (1444p no hdr) - fs2024 is herz distorted slideshow in comparison (same settings). That is the difference.
Excellent post - fully agree…
Yes.
Also I agree with the posts above in response to mine, especially the one about airliners. I fly for an airline and would rather give myself a root canal than spend even just 5 seconds in a big plane in -24. So my xbox experiences are all in models (mostly helicopters) that probably require way less processing overhead to run.
I see no performance, LOD or graphical improvements in SU2 on Xbox Series X whatsoever. Look at this shadow quality and ground texture quality.
The aircraft’s shadow in external view is just a blob, and ground textures don’t load because of this “automatic LOD system” on Xbox, which turns everything down to zero because the game doesn’t fit into memory. All while the game constantly stutters, because as soon as you move the camera, it has to stream everything in, trying to load the scenery from the servers. It’s just as ridiculous and unenjoyable as it was at launch.
And this is not even the largest airliner. So far I haven’t even dared to use the A400M, the Beluga or any of the wide-body Boeings.
Looks like MSFS 2024 will not get any better on Xbox. It’s a failure. 2020 looks and runs infinitely better. I wish these aircraft were available there as well.
I second this. I just got back for the first time since maybe January. Been hearing a lot of apparent good things after SU2 dropped and figured finally there is an improvement in performance.
Couldn’t be more wrong. Performance, especially with airliners, has just not improved at all. Maybe got even worse for me. And I’m still on 1GB wired connection.
So yea, instant uninstall for me I’m more convinced that MSFS 2024 was forced on console, and it won’t get better.
Meanwhile MSFS 2020 continues to be great.
Does anyone else have an issue with the airbus A400 on Xbox series X)
If I start the AC cold and dark, I can’t switch the batteries on (press buttons but nothing happens) and also can’t even get external power (can’t contact ATC to request external power as the batteries don’t turn on the power).
On the EFB, it does nothing if I go onto ground and press start on APU, start on GPU or ready for takeoff, just remains in the cold and dark state.
If i start on the runway, the sim starts with all four engines running, but then three engines spool down straight away, leaving engine 1 running but with absolutely no displays or indications on in the cockpit.
Have tried deleting and reinstalling the game (including saved data) and it still behaves the same.
Interested to hear if anyone has had or is having the same issue.
Sim Update 2 is unplayable on Xbox.
When flying from place to place, after a while terrain textures just stop to load and stay blurry.
Even worse, the game introduces 1000 ms (1 second long) stutters. Every few seconds, the simulator locks up for a whole second.
It’s basically impossible to fly like this.
And ontop of this ATC is so ■■■■ confused they didn’t stop talking about my IFR flightplan.
Had to mute it on every flight…
I don’t think that is only a Xbox issues, had that happen on my PC side as well. Must I say that my PC is beefy too with over 1Gbps of internet speeds. Something is definitely still wrong with it. When it works which is 90% of the time for me its amazing, other times when bugs like this occurs after a 4-6 hour flight it ruins the fun.
I’m on Series X and the game was more playable at release than now… had to go back to 2020 to be able to even fly…
Let’s face it. This game is not for xbox. Period. Even MSFS 2020 is a mess. We better save some money and buy a PC.
I’ve completed several flights in MSFS 20 and 24 on Xbox with just a joystick, it’s possible, but the game is not ready enough to accommodate a trouble free experience.
The problem is that 2024 does work on Xbox - as long as you are flying a very basic single seater bush plane. 2020 has it’s issues from time to time but generally I’m having a relatively trouble free experience flying the PMDG 737 and 777 on SU15. SU16 beta is a different story however
I only run FS20 on my XBX these days.
I’ve recently been running FS24 on the Nvidia GeForce Now platform, so far very impressed. You can’t mod it but coming from an XBX I’m used to that. Runs brilliantly IMHO - 4K, 45+ FPS without frame gen and isn’t as heavy on bandwidth as you might expect.
I just want to note for everyone who reads this thread and wonders if it’s worth trying again on Xbox X, that for me it generally works very well. 80% of the flights go well for me and when it works I find it’s a better overall experience than 2020. Lighting, ground detail, clouds, load time, the EFB with navigation charts. I only use payware addons none of the standard aircraft.
Pictures from SU2, all live weather.
At low altitudes like on your pictures it’s usually fine. But as soon as you climb to cruise levels, say 5-10,000+ ft, the terrain becomes a blurry mess. See my screenshots above. 2020 was not like this even on its worst days.
The sim has a good way to go on Xbox but flying GA with aircraft like the new F33A ,Piper Dakota and the CT210N flying from a selection of 3rd party airfields I’m having a not perfect experience but some very successful flights on SU2. I do hope they make it better and not worse with SU3
The problem in 2024 was that detail distance was changed. In 2020, the highest LOD level is a fixed radius from the aircraft regardless of altitude. In 2024 (specifically in airliners), it’s a 1 mile radius (5000ft) ball - so as you get higher, there’s less ground detail distance until you are above 1 mile and the detail goes down an LOD level to total blur. To be honest, I don’t understand why this was necessary as literally nobody has ever had performance issues in cruise on 2020. There is an aspect I suppose of it being much less detail to have to stream and load over a long flight which has been the runway lights issue on series S and more recently also on series X. But at the same time, that’s just bad memory management of the RAM filling up and requires a proper fix rather than a work around which is what this is
