This is what it was like

Hi fellow simmers!

I randomly came across this video on yt. It demonstrates perfectly how incredible the sim looked like before SU5. It reminded me of how every time I would play the game I would be amazed. Such beatiful clouds, lighting, waves, night lighting , reflections… it was so realistic.

Now, well, it looks much more blant, almost gamish/cartoonish. Such a shame… such a shame…

Nothing changed graphically in SU5 except the object culling, which has been corrected since in the form of a slider so you can choose for yourself how aggressive to make it depending on whether you want to favor visuals or fps.

Respectfully disagree, looks more or less the same to me! Night lighting definitely improved since then.

@BobbyFuzzy, same here. The different hardware and software we all have, and the different settings we all use, sure does seem to give different results for appearance, bugs etc. Cheers.

Sorry, the video did nothing for me. I have the same maybe better visuals on the flights I take in comparison today.

Make sure you take samples to analyze before adhering to an idea of “before that patch this very mutable with weather that is highly dynamic and customizable sim was prettier”.

I definitely see better visuals today than that shown in the video

The sim looks way better now for me too. I am happy and dont want it to revert back.

I don’t know… it looked sublime before SU5 and some things with contrast/lighting changed with the biggest difference being clouds. It STILL looks good, but… somewhat different. Don’t know if it’s worse, though, in my opinion it’s not as good as it was before. But in the big picture, the sim is still miles above the other two in terms of visuals. So I am not complaining.

Looks the same on my end!!

Looks were never this platform problems Planes were :). Looks wise on it’s worst day this platform is going to be the best platform for VFR, by landmarks, flight, IF you can find a plane

Took this picture on approach to Las Vegas today…. I think the world and clouds look stunning…

I often get this with my clouds:

This is only since SU5. Distance clouds fine, closer not so good.

Not at all impressed.

I do as well, graphics have improved since that video, and now we also have 60fps instead of 30.
I don’t get what the op is talking about.

This is what it is like, at least on my setup. Possibly the best ever performance + visuals on Flight Simulation right now

There is still some minor pop in on trees and on some buildings. Even with full ‘everything’

Reflections on the water disappearing before the cockpit window frames cover them. It’s like because we can’t see em obscured by the plane they stop drawing em but they stop drawing them way to soon. Looks terrible.
Never happened until they messed with the culling for the X-Box release. And, I say it’s still not fixed as to be as good as it was before.

For a moment I believed we were passer the SU5 graphics…

At this point I believe complaints about general graphics are just pure trolling, the sim looks amazing, and while there are some bugs, this is, by FAR the best looking sim out there.

I fly 100% in VR and there are definitely some graphics degradations since SU5 in VR - and no, I am not trolling. This is not a complaint post, as I still absolutely love MSFS and it is by far the best flight sim from a visual perspective (If you haven’t tried it yet in VR, you are absolutely missing out). But I do hope Asobo can soon fix some of the terrible cloud shadows and even worse aliasing in VR that started with SU5.

Not true. False. They’ve changed color, exposure, night lighting and more under the hood visuals for performance.

Dude you can’t compare this… One it pretty much looks the same. But the big thing, wasn’t this around prelease or early release and one of the many “hype” videos? They were all done under NDA’s and the videos were highly polished and edited to look amazing. (Post processing, maybe?!)
