Come one MS/Asobo ..even Aerofly FS4 has the VR basics down.
While I appreciate the OpenXR devs for all their hard work.
I feel these features should be standard implementations with default MSFS VR features.
Now this with a really good hand tracking. So no more need for VR controllers… sounds nice
Tried handtracking with MSFS and the Quest2, can be set up but doesn‘t really work…
This would be fantastic, you’d think with the resources at Microsoft’s disposal they could implement this easily enough.
What would be even better is controllerlesshand tracking with the Meta Cambria when that launches so we wouldn’t even have to look around for our controllers whilst in VR.
I have the majority of my buttons and switches mapped to my Honeycomb yoke and throttle quadrant and Saitek radio, but using the G1000 is ■■■■ near impossible in VR with my mini touchpad.
Watching the ease with which the hands in this are controlling those radio and garmin buttons, I would love that in VR.
Maybe one day we will get a VR focused update…
you will never see this VR implementation in MSFS ! sorry to say. they dont have the passion to go into details. VR is ticked done on their todo list.
As long as you need the VR controllers to do this it’s too impractical and with hand tracking you need haptic feedback to get it right. So it’s a long way.
for MSFS its indeed a long way. others have implemented VR better and it works fine also with controllers.
Only hope for innovation at the consumer level will be if Quest/meta come out with something. I have hope for their next generation headsets. If the next Quest matches or beats the G2 in clarity I’ll be switching over.
next gen headset will not help if software from MSFS does not move on,.
It’s unfortunate that the VR implementation in Xplane from years ago is much better than what is here in MSFS even today. The developers have said that they are focusing more on VR and are treating it as a separate platform (ie PC, Xbox, VR) but they are coming from behind. I was surprised that at the reveal event, when asked about VR, they basically admitted they hadn’t really considered it so only implemented it after big pushback from the community but it still feels like an afterthought.
