Thrustmaster Airbus Sidestick Reverse Thrust: How?

Just got the Thrustmaster TCA Sidestick Airbus edition which has a reverse thrust function in the throttle slider that acts as a button hold when you slide it over the reverse thrust area. I’m wondering how to configure this, as I couldn’t find any instructions on how. I can bind the reverse thrust button to reverse thrust in game, but the game recognizes the entire slider as forward thrust. So even if I reverse the axes, I would not be able to use the entire throttle if I binded reverse thrust.

EDIT - I looked for the documentation and there are two modes. The stick comes default with the first mode, so you have to switch to the second mode manually.

I just figured this out. Make sure your sidestick is in Mode 2, and then set up your mappings like in this screenshot. I just tested it and it works like a charm:

Hi, I don´t get HOLD THROTTLE REVERSE THRUST or TOGGLE THROTTLE REVERSE THRUST on the A320 to react. Neither on keyboard commands nor with the joystick. Do you have any advice?

SOLVED, just use the decrease throttle command.

Just picked up one of these today. Is so much better than my old Logitech.
The manual you attached refers to a detent but the throttle on mine just slides from top to bottom smoothly. Is the detent just resistance you should feel near fhe bottom? Is it powered resistant or a physical notch?

It feels like a little recess/notch near the bottom. At first it was pretty unnoticeable, but I got used to the feel. If you can’t feel it I don’t know, maybe you got confused with the T16000, which doesn’t have the reverse thrust function.

Mine is blue and has AIRBUS written across the front in large letters, so not much confusion in that. Based on what you said, I think mine just wasn’t made as well as the rest. Might take it back but I think it was their last one, and apart from the missing detent, it is so much better than my old Logitech joystick. Just have toggle reverse thrust mapped to one of the adjoining buttons.

I’m sure you could always ask for a replacement. as RipCityUSA said above, all you need to do is map the reverse thrust button part of the slider to decrease throttle and it will go into reverse.

Yes I think I will do that. They seem to be in short supply so might have to wait for a replacement.

Tried that and it worked fine, apart from not being able to feel the detent. Interestingly you can activate reverse thrust in the air in any of the turboprops.

Proper way: Use the mappable buttons for Reverse thrust (Note thrust is for jetliners and cessna… reverse propeller for small propeller planes)planes.

Either “Hold Throttle Reverse Thrust” or “Toggle Throttle Reverse Thrust”

Goto

Options->Controls->Power Management

Look for those two options

HOLD … means you have to long press the button to open engines and reverse while increasing thrust.

Toggle… means you tap once, and use existing throttle increase to slow. It reverses it. Also handy if you get nose stuck somewhere and need to back up and have no tug.

This is definitely the best solution after I tried many.
Mapping the TOGGLE REVERSE to button 17 works only some times, perhaps because the button 17 is pressed twice randomly and the reverse does not start everytime. On the other hand, mapping it as DECRESE THROTTLE as you suggest, does always the trick done.

This isn’t strictly correct, as the “Hold” binding also requires the use of the throttle and won’t work on its own. When using the “Hold” binding, you have to hold down the button AND also use your throttle to control reverse thrust.

I Should of put must remain depressed rather then toggles. Some thrust units have buttons and the slider handle, others do not.

Still needs to be mapped

Our group uses it that way every time and it always works as long as the button works,

On an actual airbus it is Depressed as you slide thrust unit forward. IF your throttle unit has a button on it to easily hold the depress as you increase thrust use that.

IF it doesn’t like a saitek. You set a button, hit once push throttle forward. Your throttle should already be in the low position as you start that procedure.

Old conversation but I just got the stick for Christmas and I dont feel the detent at all unless I really press downso I think I got a bad one too. Doesnt really matter as Im buying the throttle quadrant anyway.

Eventually tried a couple of flightsticks and all had the missing detent. You could only feel it if you press down hard on the throttle. But even this disappears with a bit of wear. Not sure why they even bothered putting it in.

Logically, you don’t have to press down hard to feel the detent, as the mechanism doesn’t work that way.

The detents are based on a component that has several notches, located at the bottom of the throttle. If you don’t feel it, then it might not have the groove at all. If you have to press it down hard to feel it, then it might be the case that the detents might have worn off.

Things that you could do is to: fasten the screws tighter, or buy third party detents that is more realistic (instead of going CL detent at half-way)

Thanks. Looked at the 1st link and saw that the throttle comes right off to allow you to remove a part and disable to detent if you want. I removed the single throttle mounted on the flightsick, to check out how the detent bits worked. Without changing anything, I then found that after reseating the throttle that the detent was now very noticeable. In fact way more noticeable than it has even been. So I am guessing that the 2 flight sticks I had tried had both not had the throttle part correctly seated at the factory. At last, I can use the detent for reverse thrust.
