Thrustmaster Sidestick set-up problem

Good after morning

SO, I just got my shiny new Thrustmaster Airbus sidestick and quadrant. Been in the Control Panel and set-up the properties etc. Run FS2020 and pop along to controls. So far all feels jolly nice. Take a look at the sensitivity settings and added a few percent deadzone to the X & Y axis and slightly tweaked the curves. But when I look at the rudder axis, the deflection is all or nothing. The slightest movement and ‘bang’ it’s full deflection. I have tried all kinds of tweaking of the deadzone and curves etc, but nothing changes it - zero or bang, maximum. Nothing in between, no gradual movement. Now, I am in no way an expert, (but have been using FS on and off for about 15 years!) so maybe this is the way all rudders work? I wouldn’t have thought so - or rudder pedals would be of little use; a simple left or right switch would suffice! Can anyone please point me in the right direction, tell me what a silly man I am? By the way, I am getting into using the FlyByWire A320 NEO (now stand-alone) Experimental version. External views show the rudder going very quickly to maximum deflection, unable to move a little bit at a time or hold it halfway or whatever.

Advance thanks for any help coming my way.

Is the rudder axis behaving correctly in the windows control panel for the airbus sidestick?
First thing that comes to mind is, make sure in the controls assignments you have assigned rudder axis and not rudder left / rudder right.

Hello @GlennAir1953 ,
I moved your topic to #self-service:peripherals
Here you can post anything related to joysticks, yokes, rudder pedals etc.

The category general discussion is a place for general MSFS-related discussion and feedback.

Thank you!

I had to shake my Sidestick and do a full rudder twist movement rapidly a couple of times before it can stabilise in the middle. this is also my sidestick bindings and sensitivity settings.

Not responding correctly in windows, doing the same. I like your suggestion about assignments and am now going to take a look (Must admit that I am still struggling a little with all the assignments - my grand-kids call me an ‘Old Fart’ !!)

If the TCA is like previous TM sticks, there will be a TM calibration utility, which usually means don’t use Windows calibration.

Maybe check that out on the TM site. If you have done a windows 10 calibration, IIRC, you’ll need to reset the joystick to default in the windows 10 calibration dialogue and then run the TM calibration utility.

Using a T1600M (basically identical with the Airbus stick), I simply plug it into my PC and it’s being correctly reckognized by Win10.
I’ve never downloaded or used any TM software.

If the physical rotation of the TCA is not moving the rudder axis smoothly on the windows control panel, then this is your problem. The sim receives that input from windows.

Same with my Warthog, but the calibration utility is still useful for those that inadvertently calibrate it via the Windows 10 facility or who have issues with one control. I had an issue with the analogue stick on the back of my throttle and TM sent me the latest version of the utility to help me fix it. I’ve since replaced that control though.

Still no improvement…

Unfortunately it has been reported a few times already that the Airbus sticks twist control suffers from malfunctions due to the bad routing of the wiring.
If it doesn’t work in windows, it might be the stick itself. :frowning:

Well that doesn’t bode well! I really don’t relish the thought of having to re-pack and send it back fom whence it cam, then possibly waiting a very, very long time for a replacement. It has taken me a couple of months to finaly track down one to purchase in the first place. Goldfish have more chances of growing fangs!

On searching via Google, I came across an XP11 user with what sounds like a similar problem and he had come to the conclusion that there may be a config file(s) included with the sidestick that is designed to be used with TM rudder pedals. He claimed that removing the mappings from the ghost rudder pedals sorted his issue.

I don’t have a TCA sidestick, but it maybe worth checking out whether you have such a ghost controller in your control settings. It might be worth a try.

Either that or contact TM support and see if they can suggest anything, that would preclude the need to send it back.

I have got these strange looking ‘things’ in my control panel settings - never seen anything like this before. Both sidestick and quadrant are plugged into separate USB 3 ports. I am just about to look for any config files…

FIXED IT!

I deleted the T.A.R.G.E.T. software. Also some hotas drivers (?) from the Programs and Features panel. Also deleted every reference I could find to my old Black Widow stick. Re-booted the PC. Back in Control Panel and stick properties where I re-set it to default (done same for the quadrant), and now it actually works smooth as a babys’ bvm!.

Many thanks to everyones help and input. Now I have to go and feed this hole in my face before I fly off to sunnier climes!
