Thrustmaster T.16000M out of stock situation

Thrustmaster T.16000M is out of stock in all reputable vendors. I don’t want to spend 2x or more to buy from some not-so-reputable 3rd party suppliers from Amazon or eBay.

Has Thrustmaster been out before, and how soon it comes back on line? Do you think the after holiday will ease the demand issue soon?

I’m not sure I would reccomend this HOTAS unless you have rudder pedals. The twist axis will fail. It’s not even a maybe. The design is terrible. You can sometimes get them to work again by disassembling and realigning the plastic pieces that help the sensors (on both the joystick and throttle paddle) register the twist movement but its very fiddly.

Also, if you go through Thrusmaster support they will force you to prove you’ve destroyed your old unit before they will send you a replacement, so you’ll be without anything while you wait 5-10 days for the new one to arrive. They should be drop shipping a replacement and charging you for the new one if the old one is not returned, then repairing them and reselling as refurbished. The policy to have people destroy hardware is incredibly wasteful. And I have to imagine they’re spending a ton of money replacing these things for people.

Whilst the poster above has obviously had a poor experience, my own personal opinion of the 16000M is that its a better joystick than those that depend on a potentiometer for position sensing as they wear poorly after continuous use. Thrustmaster’s magnetic sensors are better.
Thrustmaster is suffering production delays due to the pandemic and delivery of most of their popular products are suffering accordingly. The supply situation will improve eventually.

Your next choice after Thrustmaster are the enthusiast brands Virpil and VKB. They also use Hall Magnetic Sensors for accuracy.

My understanding is that the twist axis is still a potentiometer. After continuous use, there is a wear spot that creates a failure that causes a left yaw. This is an extremely widespread problem with the T.16000M.

I use a VKB Gladiator, and while not perfect, it’s been an excellent joystick.

Hi there, I have the same Thrustmaster joystick and I am very happy with it…No problems so far.

I’ve never played any game on my PC, which had been a mere productive tool for me. Last year, I built this PC to enhance my videography hobby, thus, a powerful PC. Here in the northeastern USA it is pretty cold, and with the pandemic, I can’t go out too often to too many places. I want to utilize my asset (the PC) to keep me occupied. So, I’ve found MSFS that may entice me.

So, I am not a dedicated gamer, yet. I don’t want to spend a lot of money on an accessory (control stick/throttle). I think the Thrustmaster offers a great value at $159.99 that includes a separate throttle and the flight stick. I also have seen a few youtube reviews that seems to indicate it will fit the bill. My thinking is, if I get serious down the road, I can always upgrade to something better. If the Thrustmaster doesn’t break by then, I will be able to sell it on eBay to subsidize my upgrade.
The other unit in the similar price range and feature is the X52 made by Logitech. Any comment on that?

The twist axis is a potentiometer. I tried not to get too technical in my post but basically, the twist on the throttle paddle uses a small plastic piece that fits on and rotates the shaft of the potentiomer. This piece has a protusion that slots into a semicircular slot to translate the paddle motion to the pot rotation. Neither of these pieces are lubricated (plastic typically wouldn’t be) and there appears to be too much slop in the molding for these parts to fit together well enough to be reliable. I think the slop leads to the pieces kinda jamming up and/or working loose slightly. I was able to get my paddle working again for a bit by pulling it apart and tightening everything back down. Same for my joystick. This was after I had one replaced. Unfortunately, the joystick is acting up again. At some point, as you indicate, these pieces are going to wear out to the point where they simply will not work anymore. Thus, while the hall sensors are indeed excellent on the joystick and its probably the best value in this regard, if one expects to use it for rudder control, I just can’t reccomend it.

Yep. And the same goes for all Thrustmaster’s sticks in that price range.

If one plans to use rudder pedals, then it isn’t a problem and the stick is solid (but good luck finding pedals nowadays), but otherwise expect to have to set massive deadzones for the rudder.
