Time For A New Joystick (No Internal Cleaning Req'd)

Hi All,

My rudder is acting up on my T16000M. I’m too lazy to keep taking it apart and clean it.
Based on what I read/understand, apparently a few joysticks share this same issue. Please suggest a quality joystick that does not experience this issue. Mid-market prices preferred but willing to go higher end if justified.
Thanks to anyone who can contribute.

Do you have the rudder tied to the joystick by twisting it? I had the same problem. Buy rudder pedals instead, which will gain toe brake functionality. Make sure the twisting axis for the rudder input is removed from your bindings. The pedals that go with the T16000M are the TFRP pedals for around 120 bucks. There are lots of choices for rudder pedals from 120 up to 600+ USD.

Thank you. To be clear, yes I do have rudder tied to joystick by twisting it.

I prefer to switch to another joystick (yes, I know less realistic but pedals are just a bit too much for me). However will switch to rudder pedals if a suitable/quality alternative joystick is not suggested.

I replaced my dodgy twist Airbus Thrustmaster stick with the VKB Gladiator NXT EVO:-

Gladiator NXT EVO ‘Space Combat Edition’ – VKB FSC Europe (flightsimcontrols.com)

The twist uses a “contactless MaRS sensor” although I only use the twist for the tiller as I have rudder pedals. I’ve had it for over a year now with no problems.

Thank you.
Waiting for additional suggestions but will consider this.

I recently bought the (not so new) X52 Hotas for helicopter flying and I’m pretty content with it. It has a ton of buttons and sliders, and having a seperate “collective” / throttle is nice. The grib is good.

But honestly, if aircraft flying is your thing: go with a yoke. You’ll never go back to a joystick after. I have both the Honeycomb Alpha (for GA) and the Thrustmaster Boeing (for airliners) and they’re both well worth their price.

Appreciate the feedback here.
I’m trying to avoid a yoke and rudder pedals. For me its due to size and storage (personal preference). I perfectly understand why you guys go for it in terms of realism.

To clarify, does this X52 you suggest not experience rudder issues (not require internal cleaning). If so, will add it to consideration.

I understand, of course go with whats best for your setup.

With regards to cleaning I couldn’t say as I just got it a few months ago. The spring is delicate (but in a good way). It does have a Z-slider to assign rudder but I locked it as I use pedals instead.

However, I just toured the Egyptian Piramids with a chopper so it was still connected. I does have this dust-cap that keeps the spring-mechanism covered.

Will wait to hear more. Currently exploring this and the VKB Gladiator NXT EVO.
TY.

After a lot of research and YouTube videos, I ordered one last week to replace my T16000M.

1 word: vkb gladiator… well 1 word and 1 abbreviation than…

thanks fellas,
VKB Gladiator NXT EVO has taken the lead primarily due to the amount of recommendations and its “contactless MaRS sensor”. Will keep this open but strongly considering now.

Just a small review I did from joysticks i bought.
Hope it helps as well
Its a review i wrote in september 2021. So over 2 years and still no issues, dust etc with the gladiator. Durabilty, precision is just perfect i can say.
Only one small issue.
I had a rubber handpalm rest pad/sticker falling of the stick. Glued it back on and no problems anymore. Material stays in great shape.

I just purchased the Velocity One Joystick. Have not used it too much so far, but it seems pretty good for a good price. There are lots of reviews on Youtube if it interests you.

Already considered the Velocity One Joystick before my original post.

I like the simplicity of it and almost pulled the trigger on purchasing it - but from my research reviews seems to favour the, albeit more expensive, VKB Gladiator.

Additionally (correct me if I’m wrong???) I believe the Velocity One is also vulnerable to dust issues with rudder.

Regardless, thanks for suggestion.

See that Logitech extreme 3D pro there for 59$ been my friend since FSX for over 10 years!! Using it for rudder and throttle. (No pedals)

I work onboard a ship, dust is another level here… no problems so far.

I am very pleased with my Gladiator NXT EVO.

Also bought the FSM-GA. It is great.

Well, IF you did take it apart, chances are, you will find that the Rudder (twist) Pot is about the smallest, lowest grade Pot imaginable. NO wonder they fail so quickly easily.

I took an old MS Sidewinder FFB joystick apart a few weeks ago, to fix an intermittent button, and was shocked to see what was here as the Rudder Pot. Far smaller and more “wimpy” than the other two Joystick Pots.

Just to second thst recommendation, I use the velocity one and its pretty solid. It has its querks like everything, but all together solid, havent had any rudder trouble yet and dont ever plan to clean it.

Gladiator NXT hands down. Super precise, 0 deadspot, a lot of buttons and foremost the soft dampening is magic. Works just like a A320 side stick. It doesn’t jump around when you let go, instead slowly returns to center.
