Now that I have made the transition from Xbox to PC, I’m in control of my graphic settings.
I know what TLOD and OLOD mean, but what I don’t understand is what, exactly, each of them are affecting in the sim.
-
Are trees objects and subject to OLOD or are they terrain and subject to TLOD?
-
Does TLOD affect buildings in cities in the distance?
-
Does TLOD affect the graphical quality of ground tiles?
-
What objects are affected by the OLOD slider?
-
Does any of this have any bearing on photogrammetry?
What was interesting, was I was doing a bunch of testing yesterday for available airport services upon landing and taxing to parking/gate. I was spawning in the air on approach to KSBP. I was using both the sim’s autogen version of KSBP and Just Flight’s handcrafted version.
What I noted, with regularity, was the runway looking poorly. As I flew closer, it would draw the closest section of the runway more detailed. Then, as I flew closer still, another section would refresh and be more detailed. It maybe did this 3-4 times as I approached the airport. It was a jarringly obvious change to the runway and looked terrible.
I run the sim on Ultra settings, so 200/200 on TLOD/OLOD. On one approach, I paused and cranked up TLOD to 400 – it had no effect on the drawing of the runway and the runway detail continued as before, drawing in very obvious updating stages.
Help me out. What are these sliders affecting and what is responsible for the way the runway was being rendered in various stages of quality?
I see this sort of thing bandied about on this forum, but I still do not know what controls what and why the graphics are so inconsistent.
