Tobii head tracker and G1000 MFD functions still not working

Tried the SU3 beta early this morning, and am very disappointed to see that the Tobii still can’t be controlled properly in-game. Something had changed as it had reverted to mostly eye tracking instead of the head tracking only that I prefer, but I was unable to change or adjust it via the in-game profiles and settings. Thankfully, the XML file edit workaround is still effective.

Also, since the start of SU2 a large number of controls that used to be available for mapping in relation to the G1000 (&NXi) have simply disappeared. MFD map range zoom in/out was incredibly useful to have mapped to a rotary control, as were quite a few other features that have all now gone. I have raised a ticket and several forum threads, but still nothing has been actioned and users are getting very frustrated and angry.

I do like the improved visuals in 24, but these continued and uncorrected errors are really making 2020 look far more attractive again, since everything in there generally just works far better.

The controls and profiles interface in 2024 remains really terrible compared to the older sim, a huge downgrade.

Edited to add: If anyone can point me towards how to actually make the Tobii work properly in-game, or to where I can find and map the G1000 MFD controls, it would be much appreciated!

In the Sim, go to the Tobii in controls. Then duplicate the default profile and name it something. Now go to the Tobii game hub app, choose MSFS and then on the right you should see a profile drop list. Change to your new profile and set the settings for your tracking. Now your settings won’t be reverted on a patch. I was dealing with this and it was annoying to have to go back into the game hub every patch and now my settings have saved across patches in SU2 and the SU3 release.

Hi Pion, and thank you for the guidance.

Your explanation is clear & I’ve bookmarked it for future reference, just in case. The XML file edit I had previously applied had changed with SU3, but I have re-input my previous settings and this also seems to be saved and constant after a couple of sim restarts.

But I feel the main part of the issue still remains - in MSFS 2020, the Tobii device had a set of sliders which duplicated those provided by Tobii in their Game Hub, and so we had in-game control directly over the devices parameters.
In 2024, you can’t adjust the sliders in the control settings to directly control and set up the head tracker, so we still don’t have the native in-game controls that worked so easily and well in the older sim.

The problem of the missing MFD controls (that worked perfectly prior to SU2) is also still there unfortunately.

They should take all Tobii settings out and implement a fully support of Tobii Game Hub without the use of Opentrack.

Last time I checked, Tobii Game Hub used 500MB of memory. Which is a bit insane for such a tool. You dont need Game Hub or Opentrack, change the settings directly in the settings file until a proper fix is made by Asobo (whenever that is).

I understand the problem with the high RAM usage. But Tobii Game Hub has much more options like the camera boost and the head movement depends on the camera direction and isn’t fix like the native MSFS head movement.

Yay! Got the Tobii settings with 1.5.2.0 :+1:

This is worth joining the SU3 beta on its own!!

Late to post but so happy about this – native settings for Tobii are FINALLY here!

By the way, mind sharing your best Tobii eye tracking settings?

Yes here are the settings I’m using:

Eye vs Head Tracking Ratio: 0.97
Eye Tracking Responsiveness: 0.39
Head Tracking Sensitivity: Pitch/Yaw: 1.7
Center Stabilization: 0.06
Head Tracking Sensitivity: Roll: 0.19
Head Tracking Sensitivity: Position: 1
Head Tracking Auto-center: 1

I had given up on SU3 beta, since it seemed to introduce even more problems and omissions than SU2 did, so I am currently on the regular build.

Does SU3 beta now have full proper native control over the tobii 5, and does it also have the correct names for the tobii’s settings in the sim?

I remember some time after 2024 launched, it recognised the device but the control settings just had 7 or 8 blank and un-named sliders that went from 0 - 130.

Yes. You can now control the settings in sim versus having to use the tobii app

Thank you for sharing.

Got Tobii out of storage given everyone says it works in SU3. It works in Game Hub, it works in Tobii Experience, heck even the preview gaze works in game.

But nothing else. Keybind does not toggle head tracking. Tobii is still completely broken and useless.
