Having not flown around Tokyo much yet, thought I had better go and have a look see before the World update this week. Was not disappointed. ![]()
Yes, I hope that they will keep the manual POIs even after the update when some of the cities will have PG option. They are just so well crafted that it would be a shame if they got replaced.
Wow you’re funny. That took only 3 posts to get the trolls. Is that a new record?
So I thought this thread a good idea - to record Tokyo now so that when the update comes out, we can see how it has improved. So here are a few shots so that we can try to do before and after the Japan update. These were taken as at 27/9/21 at noon, clear skies. Note I’ve got a scenery download for the Tokyo Tower in here - all else is stock
I did say in a post in another thread:
We don’t need a Japan scenery update since we have Japan scenery already that looks good.
Is it real to world in present day? I do not know.
Although I would like this game called a simulation to work like one.. That should be a top priority on our favorite developers list.
Then let’s get the additions to scenery everywhere!
Wink ![]()
Yes, the stock scenery here does look good. It will be interesting to see what improvements they make.
Other cities that have photogrammetry also keep manually modeled landmarks like Seattle and such. I doubt they’d just remove them ![]()
And you have already been told in other threads that it doesn’t work like that. It’s funny that you’re trolling even screenshot threads now.
If you expect artists and scenery designers to sit on their rear while engineers and programmers work on the “simulation” (which incidntally already “works like one”) you simply don’t know how game development functions at the most basic level.
Incidentally, if you think Japan “already looks good” you haven’t even looked at a postcard from Japan. Among major countries, it’s probably the one with the least detail. It doesn’t have a single city with photogrammetry and landmarks are extremely sparse even in cities that absolutely dwarf every single American city in size and population.
Minato Mirai, the area around the Yokohama Landmark Tower in the first picture looks like this in real life.
Among like 20 recognizable buildings, a massive ferris wheel, and more, we have one in the sim now, surrounded by pretty much nothing.
Better scenery is absolutely warranted and welcome.
Abriael: I agree that better scenery is warranted and welcome. The huge 160 ft wooden temple in Nara is a one story office building in MSFS2020 and Osaka castle is a tall office building. (see here: Some sight seeing in Japan!) (the same goes for Kyoto Imperial Palace and Nijo castle, all represented as office buildings)
Perhaps worse is that the style of housing is not represented well for auto-generated buildings. In California I see houses with dormer windows represented well (the dormer sticks out of the roof line on the model, amazingly), however, in Japan houses and buildings are too blocky and don’t represent regional character.
(Also, for an unrelated omission, the awesome historic iron and glass greenhouses at Kew gardens near London are just textures flat on the ground)
