VR man! It’s worth having if this is its only use. It’s a whole new world. All you need is a Quest 2.
Backlog or not. I’m sure if this had happen even once to one of the developers, it would be fixed by now. They really need to get their priorities right. What’s the use of having 150+ addon airplanes when you can’t fly them ? It’s like an E-Banking system that does not let you make any payments.
I get the frustration, but engineers don’t get to decide what is high priority. That’s the job of the product people. You’ll usually find that the dev teams are as frustrated about what’s going on as the users. Mine certainly have been.
I must admit this issue has put me off flying this sim.
When I do fly, I fly in offline mode and rely on my caching to work from previous flights - I tend to fly mostly in similar areas but this would not look good for new areas. I have to disconnect my internet connection as soon as I am ready for departure, and then acknowledge the popup once - not ideal though.
I still do not know why manual caching does not work for scenery, only photogrammetry I believe so I rely on rolling cache.
I am still shocked that after update 11 this is an issue, it would be nice to know if it’s actually going to be addressed.
Forget the default plane avionic updates, world updates etc and focus on the stability surely?
All it needs is an option to disable this popup, or make its smaller.
Unfortunately I am finding that despite how much I shout about issues with games these days in twitter and forum’s nothing happens…
I just hope Asobo/MS are aware of this game breaking pop up, I have seriously considered going back to P3D.
Please MS/Asbo, can you fix this? Or if not can someone in the modding community do something?
One assumption, about the reason why the message is appearing in the first place, is that it is the sim itself. It might be a reasonable further assumption that if this were the case it might affect all users equally but it clearly does not going by the mere ~240 replies to this particular thread.
It’s more likely this is a combination of your provider, service level, and geographic location to Microsoft servers. I would make yet another assumption that if I were to take my computer to the home of someone who regularly gets it, I would start getting it as well.
So this may be more of an infrastructure issue rather than a “simple” client issue.
The way that message is displayed however is the kicker, and that they can, and should be able to do something about. In spite of the fact that I have only seen this a handful of times, I too would rather it be some unobtrusive corner alert that does not affect piloting of the plane.
thanks, exact same thinking… I seen this popup also only few times and that was all on the same day ( so I can say, there is not really a problem for me ). I voted for the topic, because like you sayd “…The way that message is displayed however…” is not a good solution and should be changed, in special if that affects the flight itself.
Issues with the bandwith, the connections , etc. some users get, as which reason ever, and cause that the popup is displayed, is not the topic here.
I’m in the same situation. I’ve stopped wasting my time trying to use msfs because of their endless unacknowledged server issues.
In all honesty, the only time I ever see this message is when either a) my internet connection is slow / broken (which is very rare but has happened while I’m playing) or b) when I’m on the Friday fly-in and the SE Asia server gets overloaded. Or that one time it was happening to more or less everyone for a few hours.
I think we should stay on topic. The server connection problem has it’s own thread.
This is only about the intrusive message and how that is handled. No point in discussing server connections here.
Asobo/MS will have to change the way these in flight messages are handled or the simulator is simply not usable.
Just imagine they would write software for real airplanes. Some message pops up on the PFD and the Airbus side stick is not working until the pilot manages to click away the message.
Exactly, its an embarrasment and goes against the idea of a serious flight simulator…
While the intrusiveness has always been an issue, I’d just like to point out that the loss of flight controls while this message gets displayed has only been an issue since SU11, so before SU11 they had a way of allowing us to be able to control aircraft while the message is displayed. So it would seem logical that they can fix it. It’s just a pity that they create so many bugs with every update, but we have to wait until the next update before we get a fix.
It’s not just the intrusive message. It’s also what msfs does when a server connection glitches.
It may be that I accidentally click the wrong thing, but I think there’s more to it than that.
When the connection is interrupted, yes, the user should be notified in a non-intrusive and non-blocking way, but in addition, the sim should try to re-establish the connection.
When the connection is restored, the online services should be renewed.
I don’t think that really needs to be stated. It seems obvious, but that’s not how it seems to be coded.
Out of interest, what would that be?
In some situation it will do just that. You get a much smaller green bar that states the connection has been established.
Out of interesting, what would that be?
One that does not block your view and controls when you are flying, with a popup that is stating connection issues!
Phew, thank God mine doesn’t do that.
Well you are lucky
This is also something I’m absolutely fed up with. I enjoy long hauls overnight. For reasons others may not enjoy, I like setting up my flight to go overnight and waking up the next morning to complete it. On older systems I had to worry about a CTD, but with this platform it’s completely stable….
That is until this connection lost message appears. I don’t lose controls of the aircraft, but instead my aircraft pauses. I hate waking up to see that 30 minutes after I went to sleep, my sim paused with the connection lost message and never resumed. No message should pause the sim! As others have said, this message needs to be relocated to a corner, the top or bottom of the screen, and should have no direct impact on the sim experience.
Yes, in some situations it restores the connection and carries on. So why not do it every time?
I have a pretty good connection and yes, its configured properly but that’s not the case. The problem is: I already lost a 13 hour flight because I got this message 20ft from the ground and for some reason that I DON’T UNDERSTAND… when this annoying message pops, you can’t control your aircraft anymore. And happened to me also during takeoff and guess what: I crashed and had to start the flight again, startup (pmdg 737) and so on. I’ve been simming for almost 30 years now and I just don’t understand how, just how Asobo though that was a good idea?
And do you know what makes me really really angry? Both times after I click “ok”, less than 2 seconds I got the “connection successful” message… so what is the point of ruining my flights, seriously?
Even if the problem was my connection (which was not), we SHOULD have the option to disable it if we want, regardless the connection status!
Asobo, fix this because this is bad, really bad.
