Too many aircraft?

Oooh!

The marketplace is working in 2024!!

My big addiction is aircraft and scenery.

Today, in my “library” I found several new aircraft, waiting for me to buy them.

I’m a real sucker for aircraft, especially if I’ve built instruments for them, or they’re historically significant.

Not that I have the skills (or the patience!), to fly any aircraft that requires a degree in computer science to fly, or anything more complex than my trusty DV-20 or Edgely Optica.

There’s just this thrill of sitting in the left-hand seat of something like PMDG’s DC-6, resting my hands on the yoke, and feeling the airplane’s history washing over me.

So, I collect aircraft in pretty much the same way that Jay Leno collects cars.

Which brings me to the topic of my thread:  Is it possible to have too many aircraft in your hangar?

Will that consume excessive resources or slow down the sim?  Does it slooooooow down the game’s load time or contribute to CTD’s?

Just curious. . .

If they are in your library, they should be already yours, you just need to install/stream them.
You may have purchased them for use in FS2020, and they are available in FS2024 at no extra charge.

I just quickly counted the number of Spad.Next profiles that I have for different aircraft, meaning I cared enough to spend at least a bit of time creating a profile. I have 41 of them. Some of those I haven’t flown in quite some time, maybe < 5 flights per, but I have a core of about a dozen that I fly regularly. This includes most of the major airliners , Black Square planes, and a newly purchased FSW Lear 35.

I’m still on FS2020, and I believe that the sim load times are partly due to how many planes you have. I’m a bit uncertain if that includes both marketplace and community folder plane counts, but I suspect it’s both. Mine takes about 8 minutes to get to the main menu.

I don’t think having too many planes will affect in-sim performance, nor cause CTDs.

It sure can cause “analysis paralysis”, i.e. which plane should I fly today? I should come up with some sort of random mission generator, which plane to fly and where in the world. (Airport sceneries are also too easy to amass.)
