Tool to inject >>specific<< real world aircraft into sim?

FS2020 already can inject some real-world aircraft from FlightAware but this morning a few of us waited at 9NM9 (the New Mexico Spaceport) to watch the Virgin Galactic flight if it might show up with real-world traffic turned on. It didn’t show up.

I was wondering if anyone was working on a mod to watch multiple specific aircraft (multiple simultaneously would make dropping in on airshows happening in real life a blast!) and inject them into the sim? Enter a few specific registration numbers and then those appear in sim, hopefully with an appropriate visual model or let us specify that too.

ADSBexchange doesn’t filter/censor tracking data so if it can be tracked, ADSBexchange will show it. FlightAware hides a lot of aircraft.

The built-in facility leaves out everything FlightAware hides and maybe even more. There is also a delay added to it though that’s not so big a deal. It would be cool to pick specific aircraft and be able to fly with them whether FlightAware wants to show it or not. This only works in real time but that’s how the option works already.

This probably can’t be a wishlist item because FlightAware blocks traffic as a matter of policy and MS/Asobo are bound to FlightAware through the real-world traffic feature and I bet there’s not enough interest to get them to amend contracts. We won’t see a solution to do this from MS/Asobo.

Anyone hear of something like this?

Take a Look at this .

Thank you! This looks good. The author doesn’t say where the data comes from but that’s easy to sort. Can just look at the connections. It’s the best lead on the functionality I’m looking for, though. Thanks again!

Your welcome ! It looks promising.

I found out the data comes from Flightradar24. I have an ADS-B receiver and was already submitting data to FlightAware. It was really easy to add FlightAware24 to the data export bit so I should have better coverage around my area which includes the Virgin Galactic launch site.

I haven’t had the chance to actually load the mod to try it out but the map view of FlightRadar24 showed a 172 at 10k yesterday fly right by the launch site so there is coverage there.

Maybe next launch won’t be invisible to us. :+1: Thanks again for the tip!

remember you will not see any real world reprsentation of the actual aircraft unless you have a SimObject for it in yur Sim

I thought we could edit the matching, though? Even though we may have to edit a match list, at least we can, and with FlightRadar24 info, we can make substitutions I think. I haven’t tested the mod yet - will be soon - so just speaking from what I’ve read which may be wrong. Or are you meaning something else?

the Sim can only display SimObject that he has loaded.

So if you see the next Virgin Galaxy start you will not see the actual aircraft but some other simobject, unless you have the correct SimObject (Aircraft) added.

Ah, that’s what I thought. I’d have to use stand-in aircraft and both are very unique designs. No idea how hard it would be to get a good object but they did get a lot of press so maybe someone will at least approximate the aircraft. Otherwise, might see a Cherokee stuck to the belly of a 737 or some such pairing.

Was also thinking fly-ins and Oshkosh, Farnhborough, etc, might be interesting but I doubt this mod would have enough resolution/capability to properly watch an airshow. But to watch traffic approach, line up, and arrive would be cool.

A local ADSB receiver probably does have the necessary resolution, though. I see updates on average every second but can only see in my receiver’s 250nm range that is also obstructed in some directions by mountains. With a little smoothing you might be able to watch an airshow from the air in something like the Top Rudder Solo and get a pretty good show.
