TrackIR and how to?

Has anyone been able to find out how to enable trackIR? I have one working in other game titles, just cant figure out how to enable it here.

Welcome to the forums, first step for troubleshooting TrackIR is making sure you’ve installed the latest game updates in the TrackIR software. Once that’s done make sure TrackIR is running prior to launching Flight Simulator. If it still doesn’t work at that point we’ll see what else we can collectively think of here.

it worked today flawlessly.

Hello there, i have the track ir, but even with the latest updates in the track-ir app, and having the program running before opening the simulator. It does not recognize the Track IR.

Is the green light on for the camera tracking the clip before you launch the simulator?

Just the left one!

If you don’t see an option for game updates available in the top right of TrackIR the only other things I can think of are setting your profile to exclusive, or re-installing TrackIR, followed by re-installing the sim if that still hasn’t solved it.

Track IR is only recognized by the game when Track IR sees the Reflector Clip for the cap or the IR-LEDs from the Headset mounted clip.

I was curious about this too. I’ve been spending so much time just trying to get used to the simulator that I haven’t even tried yet. I assumed it would need to be on/running before starting the sim though.

I read in another post that you need to do the following…
a) Ensure you update game files in TrackIR. There is a new Game File package/update that includes support for MSFS-2020 that needs to be loaded into TrackIR. Do that. Then, for good measure, you’ll probably want to let TrackIR check for updates to the TrackIR application itself. Exit and restart TrackIR…then…
b) You have to launch TrackIR BEFORE MSFS-2020 …and lastly…
c) You must be WEARING the reflector so the TrackIR sensor sees it, WHILE MSFS-2020 is loading for it to work in your MSFS-2020 Game session.

I have yet to test step C, wil be doing that later this evening.

UPDATE: Verified the fix above. Works great.

So can I ask a question here about TrackIR, which I don’t have. … I don’t see how it works… Why?

Here I am looking at my screen, and the instrument panel. Then I turn my head left and TrackIR pans the view to the left… but I’m physically looking to the left now and not at my screen. How do I see what I turned my head to see, when I am not looking at the screen now?

I understand it in VR, because the screens move with your head and eyes, but I don’t see how it’s effective with a desktop setup.

Can someone please enlighten me?

You set Trackir to rotate your view up to 180deg (left and right) when your head meets the edges of your monitor.

Same goes for looking up and down…you look to the top of your monitor but the view in the cockpit looks 90deg up.

Jabbers explains it well…

Great, thanks for that. I can see how it could work now. Might have to look into it a bit further. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m loving using track IR, but I am struggling with the floating effect. I know you can pause track IR, but then FS resets it to a forward view after 5 seconds or so… Precision mode helps a little bit, but if you have to stare at the G 1000 for more than 5 seconds to make complicated button presses, we need to be able to lock into place and stay there indefinitely… I talked to a guy at track IR yesterday and he says it’s a FS issue and he would bring it up with them,

if anybody else has a workaround I’d love to learn it

Start TrackIR software
Put on head
Start MSFS 2020.

Done.

there is a workaround, and its quite easy. Create a new profile that has no tracking. untick all tracking. Set a hotkey to this profile, a hotkey to your regular profile and a hot key to recalibrate. I have a hatswitch on my throttle. When i want to lean in and freeze i push forward on the hat switch and it locks me in place because trackir switched profiles with no tracking. When I’m done, i push back on the hat switch and that resets me to my normal profle. If i’ve moved my head, often the calibration is off so i push my hat switch in, and it recalibrates. Its very simple and easy to use. I think i bound F7, F8, And F9. I had to do some tweaking to remove conflicting keybinds etc.

Man that is brilliant

Okay I am tinkering around with track IR, I guess I don’t know how to establish a hot key to trigger a new profile… I’m choosing profile in the drop-down menu and assigning F6 to it, but it’s not changing over…

ok, i have a profile called No Tracking. I select the Action drop down and select profile then bind a key, in my instance Joystick4 (hotas forward). The tick boxes for Enable, Toggle, and Trap are all ticked.all axis have the little bubbles pushed all the way to the bottom so there’s no motion.

I have a modified smooth profile with the action drop down set to profile and the hotkey is bound to Joystick6 (hotas back). On the same profile, my Action dropdown for Center is mapped to Joystick2 (hotas switch IN).

I think you are missing the action dropdown. There’s center, pause, precision and profile in the action dropdown with uniqu key bind and tick boxes for each. So basically each profile has 4 possible keybinds.

hope this helps
