Has anyone been experiencing connectivity issues with TrackIR5 lately? I’ve been doing some troubleshooting and it appears the sim may be causing it. I am using the hat clip, have the sensor about 3ft away level with my cap. I do not have any harsh lighting in the area.
The problem starts when the sim loads up in the VC view, the view flips upside down and Trackir is unresponsive. Turning off the TrackIR in the ingame camera view flips the view back to normal, turning back on the TrackIR flips the view upside down again and the TrackIR remains unresponsive.
When I go into the TrackIR program I notice the camera view is working but the 3D is not, just a blank screen (no degree marks). When I restart TrackIR the camera and 3D views are working fine again. I’ve taken my cap and moved it in and out of sensor range and TrackIR works jsut fine. So it looks like it’s something in the sim causing the occasional view flips.
Anyone else see this? thoughts or comments? I didn’t see any reports of this in the forums.
Thanks!

Thanks, good to know. I now have the TrackIR connected directly to my PC. Going to see how that goes.
I fly with TrackIR everyday no issues here. I have not used a hat tracker for years and what you are describing is a problem tracking most likely an issue with a light source. The reason I say this is that is what happens when the unit cannot track all three points. Also is your USB port possibly going to sleep?

As BoboSkypark says, look for interfering light sources. It doesn’t take much infrared to mess up the tracker. A small opening in a window shade would capture mine on a sunny day. Also, if there’s a sensitivity setting try reducing the that. Can’t remember if there’s one or not.

On opentrack there is but im not sure it is on trackir5
Might want to click on the trackclip and the trackclip pro, depending on what you are using, the reflectors or the LED antlers. If i have them setup wrong, it’ll shift my view quite differently, whilst showing me what it’s seeing correctly.
Also, there’s an update button top left (click on the track-ir logo).
That’s about all i know about the program, been using it for years, not noticing any issues recently.
Have had issues with the sunlight coming into the room over the curtains, interfering with the tracking on the trackclips’ reflectors. ALso might be time to either clean the reflectors, or stick some new ones on them. Did with mine, but mostly i use the LED’s nowadays. (even though i had to glue that one as it’s too brittle.)
Good luck, hope it helps.

I spent MONTHS having random issues. Wouldn’t happen every time I flew and I could find no consistency.
Turned out that I have some t-shirts with a small reflective patch on one arm. Depending on how I was sitting and the folds of the fabric, the patch would be exposed to the IR blaster and show up as a strong fourth tracking dot which freaked out the system.
I have 2 windows down by the sim, if it’s sunny outside and I’m flying at the right time of day when the sun is coming through it wreaks havoc on my TrackIR and I have to close the blinds.

I have the same problem when the sun shines hard on my white wall behind me. Just close the blinds resolves the problem for me !
Same issue if I put my guitar amp in the TrackIR sensor’s field, the reflective panel on it makes the trackIR crazy…
May be you have one or the other problem ?
In the trackIR program, you have on the right a window showing you 3 green dots, wich are the 3 reflective zones of the headset (dots moving when you move the head). If you have more than 3 green dots it means something in your room is such reflective that the sensor takes it for the headset too… Then goes crazy…
Thanks for the sleeping USB port tip, I’ll check it out.
I have a lamp next to my monitor but I keep it fairly dim. Going to try and see if that causes or maybe some stray lights. Thanks.
Getting there. Iv’e narrowed it down to my PC. When it goes to sleep for an extended period TrackIR stops responding. I can confirm it when I start TrackIR before starting the sim. Once I restart TrackIR and then the sim all is good.
