Transformable Jet, Work in progress

Have been working with @QIKQBN and @kingdmac3365 on this. Still WIP but some more info from @QIKQBN below:

"Hello, over the last few months I became obsessed with MSFS and decided I wanted to learn how to create my own aircraft using the MSFS SDK.

I studied all the videos I could find online to learn how to use blender for modeling, texturing, and exporting to msfs. I studied the Flightsim docs extensively as well.

I want to give a big shout out to @EggMan283494 and @kingdmac3365 of FlightSimSquadron for just being awesome guys and they were so kind to share some of their wisdom and insight with a newbie like me.Also, big thanks to JonX for posting all his amazing SDK tutorials on youtube. I learned so much from all of you!

My first project is a tribute to one of my favorite animated tv shows of the 1980’s. It was called Robotech. The music in the demo is the theme music from that series. This is a tribute and not meant to be specific to any details, but to capture the essence of flying a transformable jet plane. My goal was to create something that is fun to fly, stable, handles really well, is awesome to look at, and has several different animated features that make it cool to play around with.

I started with a basic model from cgtrader, but quickly discovered It was not up to the standard that I wanted. So I had to modify or remodel almost every part, learn to texture/uv map, setup up animation rigs, and then how to use it all with the XML codes to get it to work in the game. I probably have a few hundred hours invested in this project, many of those hours just learning and banging my head trying to figure it all out.

This is still a work in progress, but I have gotten to the point where I wanted to share what I have done so far with the community. The Aircraft has a long list of cool features that I have implemented and can be read in the video description.

Curious to hear your thoughts or if this is something that interests the community.

I for one welcome our new Gundam overlords. For real though, while I’m usually a purist with flight sim, this is wild and fun looking. Great work so far!

That is both ridiculous and awesome, which makes it ridiculously awesome. I look forward to seeing the completed product!

I can’t wait to have that bird in my hangar.

Looked nice! My childhood fav also!

But have to remind that VF1-S don’t have the rear wing (horizontal stabiliser)

Haha, this is freaking insane! Great work so far :grinning:

I was thinking this was inspired by transformers. XD

Either way, I want one and can’t wait to see aerial brawls with these.

Hello @EggMan283494 and @QIKQBN,

As a fellow child of the 80s, I too was obsessed with this show as a kid. I love what you’ve accomplished so far and can’t wait to see the finished product!

Good luck!
MSFS Team

P.S. Max was a better pilot than Rick.

Battroid Mode. Must. Have.

First thing I’m doing is zooming down the Main Strip in Vegas with it.

Funny thing and great for young simmers.

You are 100% correct. My early versions of this mod did not have the stabilizers, but to be totally honest, i made the decision to add them on in fighter mode because it made the plane look so much cooler and more aggressive. Plus, it looks more like the original f-14 Tomcat, but I know what your saying. Thanks for reply :slightly_smiling_face: :+1:

Thanks so much!

Max was better than Rick, but was he better than Roy? We will never know, but Roy in his skull squadron vf1s was the original. hope to add some Max liveries in the future too. :+1:

Super-cool! Someday perhaps we can get a bunch of planes in formation and form a Voltron, but then who gets to keep the controls?

Fun and ability to enjoy less-than-serious content isn’t age-related. Plus, anyone who watched Robotech new is at least in their 50’s now!

Right, but so when you release it (paid or free) can I request it to be true to original? IRL there are no convertible fighter anyway so when it’s a fun flight, imo it better be true to the “real” thing no? Looks a bit strange imo with the stabiliser

I will consider making an on/off display switch for them :+1:

that’ll be great, the original macross series they seems to use wing tip mini thrusters and engine thrust vectoring to control the banking, so I suggest, if you’re into it, just keep the stabilizer physics to the plane but visually, get the wing tip some mini thruster animation and the “toe” area of the plane thrust vectoring?

Appreciate the suggestions. Just keep in mind, this is my first ever project in MSFS and I still have a lot to learn. What I can say, is that, in my opinion, my Robo-jet flies as good and stable as any jet currently in the game. It is now actually my favorite jet to fly around. Fast, stable, neat to look at, and great handling. With that said, it still flies like a very good jet and does not have the capabilities of what you see in the Cartoons. In the cartoons they could defy gravity, hover, zip side to side etc etc. Maybe someday I will learn how to code and implement that, but for now it is just an awesome jet with cool visual transforming capabilities when it comes to flying dynamics. I already do have some “foot” thrust vectoring, but that is mostly at lower speeds. The faster you go, the harder it is to bank quickly. That pretty much goes for every plane. Send me a link to a video with the “wing tip mini thruster” not sure what you are referring to there. :+1:t3:
