I’ve done all the training (every category green) and paid for the exam. Looking at the briefing, I see that using autopilot is part of it. However, I can’t find any autopilot training. Am I not looking in the right place or (as has been the case before) is there no training? Please tell me where to find the training for this (best YouTube if no FS2024). Thanks very much.
Depends on the aircraft as autopilot is different in very type…
There are some good YouTube’s out there, but I would suggest FlightInsight for GA style autopilot, or A330 Driver for airliners (Fs2024). Also, the stock FS aircraft are not as “realistic” in thier implementation, so I recommend do some “free” flights to practice before trying in career mode.
Thanks, Zeanuck. I got some YouTube help while waiting for a reply. I created a free flight and got to the cruise. I selected a heading, pressed the HDG and then the AP buttons. Both showed on the display, and the blue bug was in line with the purple FD route. But the plane didn’t go to the heading: if I let go of the joystick, it just drifted offline. Same with ALT. I’ll try FlightInsight and see if I’m missing something, but I don’t believe so.
I just tested this in the DA-62 in free flight and could not replicate the issue. The autopilot worked well. Double check that the avionics master is on and the MFD is initiated past the Garmin splash screen - you’ve probably done that, but I want to cover all the bases.
The configuration and the “scoreboard” (the AP status indications near the top of the PFD, circled in red) should look something like this:
Note this is in a HDG and FLC mode to capture a cruise altitude of 7500’ at 118 knots.
Also just entered a direct route to KABQ (behind me) and activated NAV mode and it did a 180 and flew the magenta line no problem.
If you’re still having trouble, please post a similar pic, at least capturing what’s on the scoreboard.
