Tree Draw Distance / LOD Issues


This is a picture with ultra settings, trees set to max. The plane is at 6000 ft, about 5500 ft agl.

Notice the terrible smudgyness all around the picture except for right underneath the aircraft. Look at how the tree draw distance is right underneath the plane. I know they said they are going to fix it in the next sim update, but man… It’s friggin ugly, and not much better than yesteryears sims!

@Bullhorns78 I (very much !) share your concerns about tree distance, but please use the upload button to post an image on this forum. When I clicked your image to enlarge it, spam pops up… the forum provides us with means to avoid that… thx

This topic is about the base MSFS content of loading/drawing of trees in the distance. This isn’t about creating an addon for it. :wink:

Looks even worse in VR. I have trees out to about 5 miles, then a definite cutoff line all around me. Everything beyond that is blurry with no trees. I just bought the seasons mod. Pretty disappointed Asobo wont allow people to do many things so far. That’s pretty bad PR.

Compared to day one, the LOD is way off and it feels downgraded. But isn’t this a issue they Know about, and will be fixed the 27?
Maby i was overhyped and saw things that wasn’t there at all…:blush:

There is a video showing some of the features of the update. By all accounts the trees will be fixed proper and all this will be moot very soon. Thanks for listening.

it is only a measly xBox X (in comparison to most user pc here)
but regarding the drawdistance of trees and objects, at least on console, is pretty much the same you get right now with TLoD 200 OLoD 200 on pc. So no improvement or difference there. Fps wise there obviously is.


Tree LOD is fixed as mentioned. There is nothing to worry about that anymore. Just wait 2 more days.

For pc you mean? Do you have more Information as a 3party dev? Because for the Xbox it is the same as it is for pc right now, as you can see in these comparison screens.
If you look really closely you could assume that the new Xbox release has a vegetation draw distance that is maybe .5-1.0nm further. But that’s it.

Don’t judge by those pictures. I am talking about PC version. You don’t need a 3rd party dev mod for trees anymore. It will be trees to the horizon.

So you’re telling me, that differently to what was said by Jörg Neumann in the last q&a („xbox and pc will be the same“) it basically isn’t the same?
By what is it to judge than those pictures?
I didn’t say or ask if you need a mod, I asked if you as a third party dev, have more information about this issue then others?

That’s why I responded and said you won’t need to worry about it. I can’t give you more details than that.

so the release notes make no mention of any changes to LOD…

You can now set LOD in CFG since performance increased, still usable and great frame, trees rendering distance are now back like the old MOD rendering far, no need anymore mod, it’s even better. After change, just make sure you set to read only to avoid the files get changed again.

looking forward to giving a try, still downloading, 3 hours and still on 50%…

So as expected, there’s nothing what was proclaimed as “Trees up to the horizon”, “Better than mod version”. Trees are just little bit further, anywhere near the mod version. Another mockery of community :frowning: .Screenshots (both ultra):
