I have two monitors and use VR exclusively. Not sure if this helps you at all or not, but I leave both monitors on while in VR and no issues at all. Locked in at 45 FPS (half my refresh rate) on a Quest 2 with a 4090/i914900k combo and it’s great. I’m no expert, but I think when you are in VR, MSFS isn’t outputting to the three screens like it would in pancake mode. My monitors are set to 1440p and I never touch the resolution.
I have triples and also use VR. I just switch the 2 side monitors off when using VR - MSFS 2024 ‘loses’ the mouse if it moves to the other screens anyway (or at least it did up to SU3)
I have triple monitors, but do most of my flying in takeoff, landings and very short cruises in VR. It doesn’t really matter performance-wise whether I turn off a monitor or two or leave them all on.
So, was away from the sim for quite a few months and just got back and saw update 6. When I enable DLSS my VRAM gets so goggled up that I get 5fps after a flight at landing. Setup is good, a 9800x3rd, 64gb RAM and a 5090.
With DLSS I see that ALL the VRAM is used, and without DLSS at most 17-20gb is used. I run 3 $K monitors but only the main at 4K and other two at 1080p, So I get about 30fps. Was hoping to push that to 60 with DLSS.
Because my screen/TVs’ minimum refresh rates are 48, the above settings allow the sim to run at 60 FPS (with frame generation) and in demanding locations like big airports, frame rate can dip and VSync keeps things working down to 50 FPS, and if it goes below that (25 native frames) MSFS dynamically reduces TLOD / OLOD / Building LODs. It’s not perfect, but running on 3x 4K mostly works.
DLAA is better than TAA for scenery, but worse for cockpit instruments, and more demanding on resources. I stick with TAA mostly. You can go with DLSS Quality or Balanced, and things will run fine, just with some loss of detail - which you might only notice if you compare directly.
DLSS Frame Generation only works on 1 monitor, not additional monitors, so I rely on FSR frame gen.
PS: I highly recommend this exercise to see what works best on your system: Systematically try settings starting at the LOW end: my goal was 3x 4K, but I started with 1 screen, Global Preset Low, DLSS Performance, and then incrementally increased to Medium, High, and DLSS Balanced, Quality, DLAA, TAA, and so on, just to see where the bottlenecks were.
