Trouble moving from old pc to new

On 5.11.2021 I purchased and downloaded to my older Lenovo computer MicroSoft Flight Simulator Premium Deluxe Edition. I then installed the game on my Western Digital My Passport USB external hard drive. I opened the simulator and used it and am still able to use it today on the Lenovo.

On 5.21.2021 I purchased a new HP computer with more speed and power. I used LapLink software to move apps and files from the Lenovo to the HP. I plugged the WD My Passport into the HP’s USB. I was not able to access the simulator using the HP. After reading a suggestion to another member’s problem, I changed the name of the HP computer to that of the Lenovo. Now I can access the sim using the HP computer but only a portion of the program. I’m searching for the elusive “start” button of the sim to pin to the task bar.

Here’s as far as I have gotten using file explorer looking at MyPassport, WpSystem:
AppData > Local > Packages > Microsoft_FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe >
(then 8 file folders listed vertically):
AC, AppData, LocalCache, LocalState, RoamingState, Settings, Staging, TempState.

Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I think you can reuse an old installation of Flight Simulator, but to be honest, I’d just download the entire game again and install it to the C: on the new computer. You’re hurting your performance in Flight Simulator trying to run it off an external drive, and depending on your internet speed and patience, you’d probably save yourself some time and grief by just downloading it again.

Agree with SkipTalbot.

At the very least, reinstall the small launcher part of MSFS from MS Store/Steam, then copy the official content from your external drive to a folder on the PC. Then launch MSFS and when it gets to the install screen, so long as you choose the same location as you’ve just moved the main content into, it should detect that the files are already there and not redo the large download.

Sorry, I don’t have much to add other than after this point I read the rest as if you were Jeremy Clarkson.

Edit: If you don’t get the reference, again, sorry

I like your idea, Skip. I have tried to do just that but using my key I was told it was not reusable as it is a one-time use key. Do you know of another way to download?

My understanding was that if you use the same Microsoft Store/GamePass/Xbox or whatever account that you used originally, then you’re good to go. They just check when you run the game to make sure multiple copies aren’t running at the same time. For example, you can’t run it on your Lenovo and HP at the same time, but you could have it installed on both. I too upgraded to a new computer and just downloaded and installed the game without issue.

Thanks for your response, Aero. I’m going to try to download again as Skip suggested. If I fail at that I may try your idea. Thanks, again.

Thanks, Skip. I shall try again to download the app.

Thanks, Salem. I have watched many a Top Gear episode.

My troubles are over! I was able to download MSFS to my new HP without issue. Just took 9 hours. Thanks to all for your assistance. Bon chance.
