Turbulence over the clouds?

Flying a few thousand feet above the clouds with the A320, I encountered turbulence.

As far as I know, there is no turbulence above the clouds, as the turbulence stops at the top of the clouds.

Could an airliner pilot give me information on this?

Check out CAT, Clear Air Turbulence.

In the real world, turbulence can happen anywhere, based on different factors…above or below clouds, in clear skies, etc…

From an article online…

Turbulence is a sudden change in airflow. It can be caused by a number of factors. The most common cause is turbulent air in the atmosphere.

Jet streams trigger sudden changes in wind speed that can rock the plane. Another type is thermal turbulence. It’s created by hot rising air, usually from cumulus clouds or thunderstorms.

Mechanical turbulence is caused by the landscape. Mountains or tall buildings can distort the wind flow in the sky above them.

Fly into Las Vegas in the summer time and you will get thrown around without a cloud in sight.

@SWACCTIME; convective air without clouds forming?

There most certainly can be turbulence over clouds and without clouds…

If the air is dry, you’ll get convective updrafts without clouds.

Is it a convective updraft causing the turbulence in the simulator though? Other users have reported flying straight through cumulonimbus with little effect.

Were you flying over mountains? That might have induced the simulator turbulence, even at really high altitudes.

for some real fun - check out ‘rotors’
Wind Shear and Eddies | Weather and Aviation (weatherstem.com)

For all the weather doubters and naggers? Pffft! Download and try to fly this. When you can put it back on the same runway, come back and tell me that weather is broken.

You should see what happens when you find a rotor with a sailplane.

An .exe to move some stuff in a folder? No thanks

it can be connected with the trade winds that can occur at high altitude or in clear skies

You can certainly get clear air turbulence above the clouds.

Like Microsoft never does?

If it wasn’t working better than some of the stock aircraft, and certainly better than some paid ones (Hear me, Kitfox?), you might have a valid point.

You’re really not gonna like Kinetic Assistant, then.

Edit: There’s a manual installer, too.

kites are for tails, not people to dangle from…

Please take a look from 3:46:28, any idea for this issue?

Windspeed of 300+ knots?

Seems something is wrong with the weather import or you are flying where you are not supposed to fly.

And who informed you that the turbulence stops above the clouds??? There are many instances where turbulence layers rest just above the clouds. Sometimes CAT hits at any level from just above the cloud layer all the way up to the higher altitudes. Take it form a guy who flew weather recognaissance for 10 years.

Cheers.
