Turn down/off Panel lights in C172?

When flying at night, the brightly lit instrument panel swamps out external city lights and such. I’d like to be able to turn down or off at least the glareshield lighting. Anyone know how to do that?

Hi @CrosscutTag1796
You didn’t mention if you’re having the issue with the steam gauge version of the 172 or the Garmin.
I’ll post some screenshots of the steam gauge version now, and if you need the Garmin version, I’ll post some more shots.
Assuming you’ve turned off the overhead floodlights. Look straight up and turn the buttons.

For the actual panel/radio lights, twist the small and large dials on the identified items to dial up/down lighting effects.

Hi @CrosscutTag1796
I’ve included some 172 Garmin shots for the interior lights. Overhead floods turn off the same as the standard 172.
There are four twist dials for the various interior lighting options:

To adjust the PFD/MFD intensity, open the “menu” button. The lights will normally go to 30% intensity if you have “auto” set. If you want less, use the “ent” button and FMS dials to change to “manual” and then dial down the intensity to whatever you want. You can select either/both MFD and/or PFD and change the light intensity for the displays. If you need more detail on using those buttons to make changes, let me know and I’ll give more detailed instructions.

Regards
