'Twas the night before Launch Day, when all through the net
Not a simmer was simming, not even a jet;
Pre-orders were placed in the Microsoft Store,
For editions of Flight Sim Twenty Twenty-Four;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds;
While visions of Airbuses danced in their heads;
And mamma with her HOTAS, and I with my yoke,
Had put down our controllers before they were broke,
When out on the forums there arose such a clatter,
I logged on to Discord to see what was the matter.
Away to a livestream I flew like a flash,
Tore open the chat and scrolled through the trash.
When what to my wondering eyes did appear,
But an Xbox logo on a giant green sphere,
With a familiar developer perched on the stream,
I knew it was Jorg Neumann, the head of the team!
More rapid than the Concorde he loaded the game,
And he demoed new aircraft, and called them by name:
"Now, Dornier! now, Beechcraft! now Boeing and Cessna 172!
On, Piper! on, Diamond! on, Pilatus and Cirrus SR22!
He was dressed in a polo with Microsoft branding,
And he showed in-game footage that fans were demanding;
A bundle of questions he answered as well,
And showed that career mode was working just swell.
A smooth pan of the cockpit with a twist of his head
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;
And lifting a VR headset off of his nose,
And giving a nod, the new sim he did close;
He sprang to his plane, to Asobo gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like a heat seeking missile.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he flew out of sight— “Happy Launch Day to all, and to all a good flight!”
Thought we could all use a little levity as we await tomorrow! Have fun, and thank you Asobo/MS.
Where did you get that? Can I post that to a buddy of mine via email? He won’t get any MSFS flight sims (stuck on IL2 from over a dozen years ago) and he’ll ignore this link.
Twas the night before Launch Day, and all through the threads,
Dread swirled like turbulence in simmers’ heads.
Pre-orders were placed, but with growing unease,
As rumors of glitches spread fast as a breeze.
The forums were chaos, a full-blown despair,
Server’s gonna crash, they won’t even care!
I clutched my poor yoke like a pilot in fright,
Doomscrolling through Reddit all dang night.
When out on the forums there rose such a cheer,
I hopped on a livestream to see what drew near.
Away to the Twitch chat I flew like a jet,
Expecting delays… but not one regret!
When what to my wondering eyes did appear,
But flawless gameplay, all crystal-clear.
And there on the stream, with a confident grin,
Was Jorg and his team… let the show begin!
Well, I’m meeting the boys tomorrow night for a drink. I’ll be leaving the house about 4pm UK time, right about launch.
When the 19th was first suggested for a meet up I thought…oh no, I can’t possibly - don’t these guys know what happens on the 19th?! ( Spoiler: I don’t think they do ).
…and then I thought, you know what? Life is too short, and there are more important things in it.
So I’ll let you lot try it out, and in the meantime, the forums should make for good reading on the bus.
For what it’s worth, I think FS2024 is going to be fantastic
And people want to let AI run air traffic control?
ChatGPT couldn’t rhyme either, but one of the stanzas it wrote (non-rhyming still) was a super touching love letter to Asobo about how they’re our heroes lol.
I’m glad I’m not the only one going to bed tonight like a kid on Christmas Eve! So excited for tomorrow morning.
Not setting an alarm, though, given that Santa’s only delivered 330MB of a 50GB potential preload…
"And the servers were primed by the Azure team with care
In hopes that all that bandwidth would still be there.
The SSDs were cleared, gigabytes left free
While visions of new planes brought sim geeks glee
And Jummivana in her kerchief, and Jorg in his cap
Were ready to bust all of our data caps.**"
