Twin Otter Problem List

I have decided to focus on the twin otter. It’s an aircraft I love and was waiting for the aerosoft version to come to Xbox on 2020 butt it never did. I was highly anticipating it coming to the new sim. This topic is going to be my updated with time scratchpad of problems and disappointments with the aircraft.

There is only one single variant. The aerosoft package had more. This is very disappointing.

When you hide the yoke a dark, horizontally-aligned polygon remains hovering in the air within the space vacated by the yoke’s vertical shaft.

On the external view HUD the engine display has no markers for current throttle setting. The needles for engine power are always on full.

The aircraft does not use the flight plan the user entered into the sim before flight. This is the same behaviour as the aerosoft original but is unforgivable now that this is a plane included with the sim. The EFB has the route but using the send to aircraft’s avionics function does nothing.

Are all the planes included with the sim supposed to feature the EFB as an object inside the aircraft? This does not. Surely annoying for VR users.

Autopilot suddenly dives the aircraft into the ground unexpectedly. Happened multiple times. Needs further investigation.

Moved to User Support Hub Aircraft & Systems that is more appropriate for community support.

I think Hans isn’t done with it yet , I hope it get some fixes and improvements, but it’s quite fun right now and a big step forward to what we had with the aerosoft version

I just started flying the Twin that came with 2024 and so cant compare it to 2020 but my problem right now is the Right engine keeps malfunctioning/failing after a few mins of flight and the notification looks like a system notification and not cockpit warning light, the engine does fail and loss of power and then get R Generator warnings/fail light come on.

I am not doing anything different to the right engine that Im not doing to the left so Im at a point where the Twin in 2024 seems unusable. Anyone else get this or have a solution?

I was able to fly to same destination with no engine trouble this time but now the plane used no fuel to get there, I have unlimited OFF. There is certainly some random stuff going on.

The Autopilot does want to kill you that’s for sure just starts a dive happen every time so far.

Just to confirm i have had right engine failure too.

Same engine malfunction here also. It’s strange because everything seems right and I’m flying below yellow limits.

The DHC 6 was a nice little plane to fly until now. I can’t even start the engines. I start them by the proper procedures, then they just switch off. If I start the other then that one will shut down I just started. Even if the switch is set to both, makes no difference. So I try again this time, by using Ctrl+E and they rev on up nicely until they decide to slow right down and shut down.

I love the Twin Otter - and purchased the Aerosoft version for MSFS2020. While that version certainly had issues, the 2024 version is far worse:-

  • Same Engine Malfunction issues as reported - fly for about 15 minutes and then I get an in Sim red warning, but there are no warnings within the actual aircraft.
  • The aircraft sounds are awful - not a patch on the 2020 version. They are now far too high pitched, especially when in flight.
  • Same general problem with the EFB while in VR mode - just can’t interact with it, so not even attempted a proper flight plan.
  • Used to be able to open the pilot’s door in the old version, but doing so in the new one just pushes you into walk-around mode. Not at all immersive - and I do support the option of by-passing walk-arounds, generally.
Very disappointed with this aircraft in 2024 - very much a step back . Cross fingers that it can be improved and certainly match the Aerosoft version as it was by the end.

There is also a problem with the A/C stability on ground. During taxiing or windy conditions doing a turn, the A/C tilt to the left or right very strong and will touch the ground with the wing tip. The suspension on the Main Gear seams a lot to weak. During taxi, it´s lifting one of the Main Gear tyres all the time. Also during t/o and landing. A bit annoying.

Ive been flying the Twin a lot laterly having the engine malfunction warning too, but my engine shuts down on the left side Pilot side and wont start up again when fuel is available. I might be wrong but i call it number 1 engine.

The same here. Malfunction (Aircraft System Malfunction - Engine Malfunction) in CRZ-Level 9000ft from EDHI to EDXW after about 20’.
It’s a pitty!!

I haven’t had any problems since last post. I was flying it wrong . I was flying it like a normal jet plane. I keep everything out of the red on take off so move throttles slowly and watch the gauges. It worked for me and I had no problems since.
