So I’ve narrowed my choices down to these two monitors:
ALIENWARE AW3420DW
AOC CU34G2X/BK
Obviously the Alienware monitor is the better one but it’s almost twice as expensive coming in at £800 where the AOC is £450. The main difference being an IPS panel instead of VA so will definitely look better but I’ve tested the AOC already and it’s a really good monitor for the price. Another difference is that the Alienware one has G Sync. The AOC only has Freesync but will work with NVidia cards.
Would there be any advantage to having a monitor with G Sync as I am using an RTX3070?
I’m trying to decide whether it’s worth paying the extra for the Alienware based on what this has which the AOC doesn’t.

Good post, I use neither
mine is a standard Asus 32" 1440p XG32VQ. A 32" widescreen for me is the sweetspot - it gives great resolution, realestate and performance in MSFS.
Ultrawide for me takes up a lot of room some older models have poor vertical resolution, not all games support ultrawide so it just looks weird - video too. 4K is nice but you need to have the h/w to run it. 1440p is much more friendly for my system specs.
I honestly don’t think there is a best option, it’s going to be down to personal preference and what system you have and possibly what other uses you have for the monitor - only you can know this. Good luck, let us know what you decide.
Too bad neiter is HDR capable… that’s a shame…
The alienware is GSYNC and AOC is FreeSync… which GPU are you using? Only one of them would work with your GPU.
I’m using an RTX3070. Even though the AOC isn’t GSync certified it will still work.
What I mean is, you won’t be able to use GSync with it, and it will only use normal VSync.
Oh I see, would I see a benefit of GSync in FS2020 as opposed to Freesync? From what I understand it’s only beneficial if you are running a game with higher FPS than what your monitor can run at.
Yes and No… If you’re running a game with a higher FPS than what your monitor can run at and no chance for the game FPS to drop below it, a normal VSync is enough, because your GPU will automatically limit itself to render at the same FPS as your monitor Refresh rate. That’s pretty much basic VSync technology for decades.
GSync on the other hand, is the other way around. Instead of having your GPU to “wait” to render at the same rate as your monitor refresh rate. Your monitor is the one that will “wait” to refresh the screen at the rate of your GPU FPS.
If you use a FreeSync monitor on an Nvidia GPU. Your monitor can’t sync their refresh rate so it will run on a constant 144Hz (unless you manually set the monitor to refresh at a lower rate). So your GPU can only do the traditional VSync to eliminate tearing, at the expense of some input lag due to the GPU doing the “waiting” instead of the monitor.

I have both a 4K 16:19 32" monitor and a 38" widescreen and can not go back to the regular 16:9 format.
My current monitor of choice is the
LG 38WN95C-W 38" UltraWide 21:9 QHD+ 144Hz IPS Curved Monitor, NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatibility, 3840x1600

So which monitor did you end up going with? Im in the market for an ultrawide myself
I’m running a Samsung 49” ultrawide at 5120 x 1440 with a RX6800 and an AMD 5900x cpu.
Very happy running MSFS 2020

Sorry for the late reply. So I went with the Huawei Mateview GT 34 inch in the end. It’s a great monitor despite being VA instead of IPS, the blacks are better than with IPS. It seems to tick most boxes in terms of price, size and resolution. The reviews online are good too which I checked before purchasing. I’m happy with it and is very immersive.
I gotta add: a year ago I bought a Sceptre (who?) 35 “ ultra wide 1440 , 100 Hz VA panel for $379 US. Unbelievably happy: gorgeous color, deep blacks, no dead pixels. Fabulous. $379! And nearly invisible bezel. Can’t say enough how good it is, although I spend most of my time in VR.
I have a 32 in ultra wide 144hz , and it’s perfect for side views , Im running it with a 1070ti and making over 60 fps, I would like to try the same monitor with a higher GPU , and find better results for the monitor, any recommendations
Have a Samsung 49” widescreen monitors paired with an AMD 6950x and love it!
I had a 27" 4k HDR beast of a monitor (still have it) but I got the Samsung Odyssey 49" OLED (2k) — took a week to get used to it, for sure, but so glad and will never go back.
Right, and make sense also , you see you rarely look up or down through the windshield, yeah sometimes when you are landing but most of the time you’re looking sideways and all of that, I do have a 32 ultra wide, and I’m happy with it, I recommend wide screen
