Unable to close the canopy Pilatus PC21

Twice I have started cold and dark in the PC21, and I cannot for the life of me get the canopy closed. I have started up every system, pulled the pin in the back, but nothing happens when I press (and hold) the canopy latch. I have press short, long, very long, pressed and dragged and everything in between.

Switched to AI pilot to see what it did, but it just ran down the runway and into the sea with the canopy open!

It takes a while to react to the clicking of the latch. Just one button push is enough. But if you are not patient, you close it again right away

Are you using the correct click spot on the right hand side?

It looks like a cut out, the lever on the left is just the lock?

Yes on the right side. Circled in yellow on the attached image. As I wrote. I have clicked once, fast, long, very long, double click, triple, every possible combination and variation of clicking. Nothing happens. All other button’s I have tried in the aircraft work as they should. But I can’t close the canopy. And I haven’t figured out what determines if I start with the canopy open or closed. If I choose to start on the runway, in stead of parked, will it have the cockpit closed then?

Oh, that’s really puzzling…can’t say I have any more advice! :frowning:
I don’t recall having any issues with opening / closing!

I will take a look t mine later and see if I have forgotten anything!

Doesn’t the canopy close to the left? How do you have it on the right side?

What do you mean? You have to undo the latch on the right side to close it and then you lock it on the left side. The right side is the hinge side.

Not a latch on the right hand side, but the click spot is there to open/close it (as circled in the earlier post)

If you ask me, having never been near a PC21, it looks like a safety latch that you have to lift up to let the canopy close. That’s why I call it a latch.

At 13:29 in this video Into the Blue apparently just click it and the cockpit closes. No such luck with my aircraft. But what on earth could it be? Do I need to uninstall the aircraft and reinstall? Has that ever fixed things?

I mean when the canopy is down the latch is on the left side of the plane, you have it on the right side…

Edit: nevermind, I see what you mean. I was thinking about the locking ever.
Need some sugar

Are you talking about the locking handle? That is on your left when the canopy is down. It has nothing to do with my problem. The release latch is always on the right edge by the hinge.

Yes I know what you mean, I just need some sugar to wake up today

As for closing/opening this is what the manual says:

Q. Why can’t I open/close the canopy?
A. To close the canopy, make sure the CFS Pin has been removed and the engine is
shut down. To open it, make sure the canopy is unlocked and the engine is shut
down. If the above conditions are met, the canopy latch should work.

I knew about the canopy pin …never thought about the engine though!
Worth a try!

Engine! I can’t remember. It was probably on then. I’ll have to wrap up at work and try this asap.
