Tried it and can confirm.
On the ground it works pretty well, once the gear is off the ground it’s not.
Probably the devs have used big part of the thrust systeem from civilian boeings.
Not exactly sure about this.
Anyhow a fun plane to fly with.
With flaps and spoilers fully deployed and thrst on idle it decents almost like a Steinway&Sons piano btw.
Happy :small_airplane:

There is a whishlist item for this. As far as I understood, it’s not a bug but a known missing feature currently (due to FS limitations)

I don’t think we can blame MS/Asobo here.
As I said earlier, I think the (external) dev’s copied the thrust systems from civilian Boeings.

I don’t think it’s a bug. Thrust reversers on aircraft aren’t supposed to engage in the air. Real life crashes have happened because of this happening and lives lost.

This is not a bug at all but a feature request and I suppose an option in the SDK to enable for specific aircraft platforms

The C-17 is an exception as it’s a military AC that uses that tech for high altitude fast descent.

Can’t find it, could you indicate the link ?

I also can’t find it anymore, seems it got lost in the forum data corruption. I know I voted for it

Re C-17, as many users mentioned above, most (if not all aircraft) have Weight on Wheels (WoW) as a condition to deploy reversers. This is a safety measure to prevent accidental deployment of reversers while inflight.

C17 is not your “regular aircraft”, and as such reversers can be engaged in-flight to perform tactical descents. Asobo has assumed this is not possible in any aircraft, and has hardcoded a WoW as a condition on FS24. As such, it is a simulator limitation.

We can bypass the simulator limitations by creating alternate systems, including manipulating the physics and bypassing the engine variables, but a native solution is always preferred - and we are working with Asobo to support this feature natively.

Who on earth would want to trigger thrust reverser on the flight and why?

Doesn’t seem that fun of an experience if you ask me…

Reminds me of the Lauda Air disaster, the airline of the famous Formula 1 driver Niki Lauda

The Lauda Air Disaster: Causes and Aftermath

The crash of Lauda Air Flight 004 on May 26, 1991, which resulted in the death of all 223 people on board, was caused by an unintended deployment of the thrust reverser on the left engine during climb. This thrust reverser, normally used only during landing to assist with braking, led to a loss of control of the aircraft and ultimately to its crash.

Causes of the Accident

  1. Design Flaw at Boeing:
  • The main cause was a design flaw in the thrust reverser system of the Boeing 767-300ER. A faulty valve and a missing O-ring allowed the thrust reverser to activate during flight, which should have been technically impossible.
  • After the accident, the design of the thrust reverser system was modified to prevent such incidents in the future.
  1. Maintenance Issues at Lauda Air:
  • In the weeks leading up to the crash, numerous error messages regarding the thrust reverser were recorded (61 reports in the month before the accident alone). These warnings were not adequately addressed or did not lead to the aircraft being taken out of service.
  1. Lack of Error Correction Possibility:
  • According to simulations, it was impossible for the pilots to recover the aircraft after the thrust reverser activated. This was also confirmed by the final report of the Thai investigation commission.

Aftermath

  • Boeing and the FAA conducted comprehensive checks on aircraft with similar thrust reverser systems after the accident and replaced faulty components.
  • Niki Lauda vigorously pursued the investigation and forced Boeing to publicly disclose the causes, despite initial reluctance due to fear of legal consequences.
  • The accident is considered the worst disaster in Austrian aviation history and cast a shadow over Lauda Air, as maintenance issues were brought into question.

I was unable to find a wishlist topic for in flight thrust reversers, so I made one, but it got deleted. I figured that it is an engine limitation and not specific to the C-17.

I remember seeing your wishlist item so it was probably accidentally deleted along with many other posts during the forum maintenance a couple of days ago.
