Unexpected low performance

Specs as following:
i5-9400f
Corsair Vengence 2*8GB 2666mhz
Gigabyte B360m Gaming 3 WIFI
Gigabyte RTX2060 gaming oc
game installed on a hdd
Medium preset setting

When manually starting and taxing (A32NX) at major airports such as KJFK I get around 15fps on average and 23fps at most. At cruising I usually get 40fps stable. At night time I get 8fps when landing and it is basically unplayable. I am quite sure the performance was better before ie around December last year. Does anyone know what is the problem?

I’m guessing HDD but 2 sticks of relatively low speed ram can’t be helping. IMO 16GB is pushing it for airliners even at 1080p, particularly FBW which I think needs more optimisation.

You don’t say what settings you have but lower LOD and/or Render Scaling/Volumetrics until you get 25fps + on approaches.

That would usually just affect initial load times when starting Flight Simulator, and maybe intermittent stutters as new scenery is loaded. A consistently low FPS suggests something else. But perhaps it’s paging to the HDD because it’s eaten that entire 16 GB? That would cause some serious slow down. Maybe @lilsoftee7287 could post a screenshot of the memory usage from the task manager and a shot of FPS stats from Flight Sim’s dev mode. There’s a wealth of info on there on what’s holding you back.

Otherwise I’d guess the CPU after that. The Airbus and JFK is an extremely CPU intense combo.

I’d wait for the July 27 update. It’s supposed to have significantly better memory management and a performance bump. If your framerate rates remain low and you’re looking to upgrade, maybe a CPU and 32 GB combo?

Yeah I should have mentioned paging. And yes the 27JUL promises big improvements in memory usage so we should all wait

Heres the screenshot
It was raining so the framerate is a bit lower
I hope it helps

Looks like you’re extremely CPU limited. That’s not surprising with your CPU/GPU combo, but it looks worse than I would expect.
What happens if you start in the Cessna 152 at the same location (preferably same weather etc also)?
Or the stock A320?

If you get much better framerate in the 152 and a bit better in the stock A320 it’s almost certainly your CPU.
If so it should improve with SU5 on July 27th.

“performance used to be better” is quite a common theme on these forums as is “performance for worse but nothing changed at my end”

However, have you tried flying without photogrammetry? What’s the impact?

40fps with Cessna 152 and 13fps with og a320 under same condition
I guess it was my cpu then
It seems that my 6th core is running at 100% and the other ones are just chillin at 60%

just wait for next update , if that doesn’t fix it you might upgrade your ram to 2x 16GB 2666Mhz.
for the time being , set your settings even lower when in the A320.

Happy flying.

You can go over to dslreorts.com and run the speed test there. See what they are telling you your speeds are and what you bufferbloat is. It seems that if you run certain intel puma-6 router or modem, you’ll have excessive buffer bloat which will limit the data your getting.

I switched mine modem out today for a new one different brand, and got another puma chip modem in its place though this one at least supports the latest Docsis 3.1 or maybe its 3.2 but it still seem to be having similar issues. My last 2 hopes are that the next update will make things better, or that I’ll have to buy the other chipset modem cant remember the name at the moment broad* something or other, but it doesnt suffer from the bufferbloat condition.

In the mean time if you have a decent router, you can turn on QoS and start tuning. You’ll have to leave enough room (bandwidth wise) for QoS to have room to work but it will work to improve the game alot.

example:
I have 120 down 20 up but with QoS off I’ll get those speeds but with bufferbloat exceed 2100ms. This seems to have a pretty bad effect on the game. I have tuned my QoS to 75 down and 12 up, and the bufferbloat has gone away. I can also say the game looks and runs a hell of alot better.

Before while the game was running I would avg 2mbps with spikes up to 20 mbps to gather scenery, with the QoS setup Im running now it stays at 25-30 mbps and the game looks a whole lot different (better). The dimishing fps issue were you have 35 fps land and take off again and the fps drops from 35-25-10-Arghhh! seems to have vanished. On the other hand Asobo could be hard at work behind the scenes on their end making things work.

Either way its something to check into, its helped alot here for the time being, maybe it will help you.
