Unreal Weather - Live METAR Mod

@SimilAirLive: If you get nothing in that window when selecting the preset, that means that the mod is not running, most likely, due to a damaged JS file.

  1. Remove and re-install the mod “as is”, without adding your token to it just yet. Restart the Sim, start your flight session and then select the weather preset as before. At this point the mod should be running and you should see the error about a missing API token below the Pressure slider.

  2. Now quit the Sim, and add your API token to the JS file. Make sure to use a plain text editor like Notepad, Notepad++ or any other code editor. Do NOT use MS Word or anything like that. Save the file and start the Sim; the mod should still work after that.

Thanks @duesen I just created a new token in AVWX (1st 3 chars changed)
ABC_mcd5B6h3hpwAN_mbCy4moIYYjrF5_H9gw02j1v0
it is also 43 chars long.
I am getting a bit confused with the install instructions tho, so if you could clear something up.
Does it work with the MS store version as a standard community installation
If not
Does the adaptation made by ViennaFlying workaround fix the issue (if it doesnt work as a standard community installation)
Many thanks indeed for getting back to me.
Ps. I have read your blogspot instruction also but i feel there is to much conflicting information that others have posted that clouds the problem when things do not go as expected.

Hi, well I just seen a 17b download from the blogspot, and it now works fine. Many thanks for everyones help

You’re right, mine is 43 characters long as well. Sorry for the confusion.

Where did you find the conflicting instructions?

Its most probably me, but when you read blogspot and then come across the forum it can get kind of confusing (especially if you have installed it and it doesnt work, then you start looking on the forum). Like I said it is probably me.
I have been using it all day and it is so much better than MSFS weather, It all makes things foggy or low cloud etc when it isnt, I know the weather at the airports I go to and this is much more acurate.
Many thanks indeed

@duesen does the latest version of UW work with the latest MSStore Version of the sim? if so, between copying it to the community folder, adding the token to the template file and starting the sim, where the mod does show up in the weather, im doing something wrong, since it’s just clearsky everywhere, everytime?

Yes, it should. Please read a few posts above: Unreal Weather - Live METAR Mod - #700 by duesen

This is how make it work, make sure UW is selected from the flight planning page, then when you have started your flight select the weather icon from the toolbar and wait a few second and it will then load the weather, it will automatically refresh the weather as you fly.

i tried that, nothing though…

for some reason it only works some places… even though there is METAR pulled?

From what I see in your screenshots, it works as expected. If you look at the METAR values, they match your Weather Menu values.

I have not been able to customize weather since update #5. What ever I select, reverts to ‘live’ weather. Was hoping it will be fixed with update #6. Alas, not to. No joy or fun flying in the dark all of the time. Please, please would someone fix this ASAP?

thing i dont get is UW always injects the closest METAR to my current location but the sim seldom reflects that information within the sim itself. Im not talking the general weather visuals, the sim does a pretty good job of depicting storms in the correct locations. But the winds are hardly ever right no matter what I pick for the source of information. What I mean is the wind info the sim is reporting at my current location is seldom the same as the METAR reported at my location.

Whether I use LIVE in game weather, Unreal weather or REX weather the SIM does not reflect that same information internally. If you dont have in cockpit weather gauges as I do you can look at Little NavMap wind indicator at the top of the map to see the differences.

I think Unreal weather does a dynamite job of injecting current live weather. I think the Sim does a pretty good job of depicting VFR weather but it definitely needs to FIX the way it depicts its IFR weather.

Oh and the way I setup weather that seems to work the best for me. I turn ON live weather in the sim setup as default . That sets my times and seems to help my multiplayer connectivity when I start the Sim. After I get setup in the plane and on the runway of choice I click on the Cloud and switch to Unreal weather. I watch for the METAR to pop up to verify its all working. That usually wakes it all up and gives me excellent visuals for my flight. I do the same thing for every flight. Im just an old man with my own ideas how to make this thing work for me… Im sure theres a better way to get the job done…

Update needed after SU7. Had to disable the addon because it breaks the weather window and doesn’t show the new sim metar feature.

Yup. Broken by the update.

As much as I appreciate Duesen his work for the last many months providing us with METAR based weather.
I don’t think it’s necessary anymore guys.
Asobo now does METAR based weather since SU7 and no more 12 hour forecasts but properly polling for new METAR data constantly.
It’s quite accurate now.

That would be nice if MSFS’ weather was actually working all the time, but apparently this isn’t always the case: Live Weather not working after Sim Update 7

Yeah, I was thinking the same. But now it seems the sim weather servers are down and it was good to have Unreal Weather as a backup.

yeah as a backup in such cases it’s definitely great, or when the weather bugs at some point in future updates.

Yep breaks the time slider and weather presets. Hope it can be updated.

If you found a live weather set you really liked I think this mod made it easy to save it as a preset.

It would be interesting to compare Live vs. the mod now.

I will update UW soon. Thanks for being patient!
