I was under the impression that I bought flight sim a few days after it was released . turns out I bought flight sim credits instead (still don’t know how this happened ). within the marketplace it tells me I’ve bought a premium upgrade owned (please see pic) but in the xbox app it tells me I have a standard edition via the xbox game pass , but I have all the aircraft that’s in the premium edition(confused yet?)
i have contacted Microsoft regarding the purchase of the credits to see if i can get a credit to my account but to no avail this hasn’t happened. i don’t want to spend more money on something that isn’t the actual game.
any help or guidance on this will be appreciated .
Just try to get a refund for now. Wait six months and come back and try again. You’ll save yourself a tremendous amount of frustration, and possibly some money.
Microsoft has hotline for payment related issues. I am in Brazil and back in July I pre-ordered the Standard edition. But since my credit card changed received an email my purchase was not successful, to change payment card.
I called the hotline 1-800 from Brazil, so Am sure wherever you are you can call too. Was quickly transferred to rep. Told him I wanted to give new card details. Did that, he thanked for my prompt action and gave me a bonus: the Deluxe version for the price of Standard
Ah yes, what you did was buy an upgrade while only having standard from the game pass. I did the same. Microsoft processed the refund for the flight sim credits (for the upgrade you got in the marketplace) and I then had to buy it fully from the Microsoft store.
Before I try and explain what I think has happened, a quick disclaimer. I am a member of the community volunteer moderation team and not a Microsoft employee. This means I can only provide you with a best guess and not a definitive answer.
The sim comes with three tiers:
Standard (includes the licence to play aka ‘Digital Ownership’) as well as a handful of hand made airports and aircraft
Deluxe
Premium Deluxe
The game pass version gives you access to the standard bundle, but only for the duration of your subscription. Because of this if you buy an upgrade in the in game store (such as the premium upgrade in your picture), you own the premium content, but not the simulator itself. When your game-pass subscription runs out you either need to renew it, or by the standard version of the sim through Steam or the Windows Store.
The good news is any DLC you buy in game is tide to your account, so everything you’ve brought should unlock if you were to buy the standard edition. The bad news is you will have spent more money than if you purchased a bundle from Steam or the Windows Store directly.
Regarding the “Flight Credits” - These are used to pay for items in game, I assume this was done to make it easier to manage account payments through Microsofts system, if you buy an item in game it will actually purchase and redeem the required number of credits.
thank you so much for this information
I’m totally lost regarding this, MS wasn’t much help when contacted . the purchase process is very confusing for me as this is my first time trying to buy a PC game from MS . i was too late to redeem the credits , it was only when the monthly subscription ran out is when i noticed something was wrong …ie: the game wouldnt work and i was past the refund date. i guess ill use the credits over time …
I have not had the means to buy something in game yet as I’m saving for a 3080, but my understanding is that you’ve used the credits shown on your account to buy the premium upgrade pack.
I may not have explained this in the best way, let me try again
This is roughly the workflow of buying an in-game item:
You click Buy or Buy & Download
The server checks to see if you have the required ‘flight credits’ to buy the item
If you don’t then it bills the credit card on your Microsoft account to buy the required credits
The credits are then removed from your flight sim account and the DLC is unlocked
Edit: This effectively means that unless you were given credits from MS for some reason, each time you buy an item, it will charge your credit card for the required number of credits and then immediately consume them to unlock the item.
so this is what i have … 400 flight sim credits . are you saying that i can use them to buy the game and if the edition is more (money) that MS then just bills you the rest ? or am i WAY OFF !!!
How do one buy “credits” in order to purchase an addon from the marletplace? Do you hsve any ideas. I’d æove to buy EKCH from Flytampa. But unsuccessfully. It keeps saying, i need to buy flightdim credit to buy the gsme…
My understanding is you need to have a credit card linked to your Microsoft Account (https://account.microsoft.com/). If you have that the purchase should work. If you are a Steam user then I believe you need to have the Steam overlay enabled as well.
Okay, in that case you will need to reach out to Microsoft Support for help. Use the Zendesk link at the top of the page, and when you create a ticket select the “Marketplace” option.
i had to NOT login with admin rights before the store would let me buy.
i had to remove admin privileges from my current user, the store then worked and i set it back after.
I had tried the other methods first but that worked.
