This mandatory update is 100GB. I can’t game with my computer until it is finished.
My download speed (DSL) is 4MB/sec per the screen and consistent history.
4MB x 60sec x 60min x 7 hrs = ~100GB.
It should have taken 7 hours.
I’m currently at over 24 hours.
To make matters worse, it was at 33% a few hours ago.
Now it is back down to 17% of 100GB completed.
What is going on?
Never heard of that before. Will do and thank you.
I looked again and it says " 4Mbits/sec ".
Does that mean .5MB/sec?
It’s Sunday night. The download has been running since Friday afternoon. 16GB remaining.
Surely this could have been done differently…
What version were you on before you started the update? I have never gotten such a large mandatory update.
I believe I currently have ver10, which was a mandatory whopper in itself.
Wasn’t expecting this one.
Steam verified all MSFS files are fine.
One possibility might be a few outstanding Local Cache maps which apparently failed previously.
(but would those be considered ‘mandatory’?)
example:
I selected Paris in high-def.
The program said it was a 10GB result, but it was all rubble the next time I flew it.
I turned Rolling Cache off, so hopefully any photogrammetry corrections would be stored and permanent.
Very few changes occurred even with many passes, and then the game crashed.
I have 5TB set aside on the 8TB HDD D: drive for storing local cache.
Not sure what exactly is in it. Just one file.
I’m using DSL so hopefully only need to download any map once.
It’s a terrible installer and they do not seem interested in solving it. I have never gone above 29Mbits/second on a 1GB connection. It doesn’t affect everyone, but it seems to affect a staggering number of people given all of the comments and post on the forums and elsewhere about it. Their server logs would 100% show this, but again, they do not appear to be interested in investigating it.
I had that problem, where the installer wanted to install to the machine real slow, tried it on the laptop and that was pulling in excess of 90mbps. So I did a little digging to find that win doesnt like some intel network adapter’s (which is what was causing the slow speeds) and once I installed the intel drivers, boom 90+ on the desktop as well.
It could also be, your ISP doesnt like for you to download huge amounts of data, and are throttling your connections to the install servers. Try running through a Virt network to see if it gets better.
It’s never gotten better in 2 years, and I’ve tried a few hacks, but the key point is I shouldn’t have to. I just downloaded a 100GB game this morning in no time. I do not have to adjust any settings anywhere on my computer to download huge files from anywhere other than this, and my network adapters are fine. It’s MSFS.
