Based on this post: Sim Update 6 Flight Live: Come Here for Updates! - #4 by Jummivana I got an update today in MS Store and XBOX App.

Downlaoded and installed without any issue, when now starting MSFS again I get the promt that I need to update again. OOpened XBX App and the update was done in under 1 sec. Started the Sima gain, back to update message…

Sim is installed in the default Store location and Content on an external drive. Anyone with the same issue?

I had the same, but after I restart the PC everything was fine and the update was installed

yeah seems to fix it. Would be good to inform the user that a restart is required then just telling him to update the game…
