I start MS2020 and it says there is an update in the marketplace
First it directs me to update the xbox app
Then it takes me to the MS Store. After a few minutes an update shows under the MS2020 logo
I start up MS2020 again and all is well… except
I have to go to content manager and update gigabytes of data.
Then we are updated?
The question is. Why? Has anyone provided in another thread the rational reason for multiple sections that must be updated just to update this sim? Which I’ve dubbed “Update Simulator”
Every single other game on the planet doesn’t update this way and for sure never will. I’m trying to be serious here and not snarky, but just for my own sanity, is there a reason for this complex multistage update process on this one single piece of software?
Moreover, when it updates, there’s no way to cancel !
At times, I had to leave my computer on even when i was travelling out of town for days - only not to shut down and corrupt the game.
Re-installing everything is quite painful.
There is no rationale to their updates, nor anything else they do. I am currently having to reinstall the entire game after flying all day because it finally decided I needed to “update” even though I opted out of the beta and did everything I was supposed to do hours ago. It was deleting my saved flights and everything from the small microsoft store update and I noticed that in time to restore from recycling bin at least. Who knows what is next as the entire game reinstalls.
I could reinstall windows faster than this. I am beyond tired of this nonsense. They finally get done with their month long holiday break and break everything even more than it already is. Seems about right.
Well, for me the update failed to install, it did not download anything and I was stuck in a loop, stating that a mandatory update was needed and then the windows store or the Xbox app were stating that the update was installed while the game upon launch was disagreeing. Anyway after restart the machine… now the update ‘worked’?.. but I have to download the full game again 115+Gb, and then when that will be done I suspect I will have to redownload several dozens of GB for the extensions and other content update.
It is already the 4th time I have to go through that, and that is not right… and time… I have a 1Gb connections and the severs are hardly giving 10% of that… and my provider is complaining about me using too much bandwidth… what a waste of time and energy… way to go to offset your carbon footprint… a patch of few megabytes forces me to download hundreds of gigabytes…
Sounds like you missed a few updates. Yesterday there was only a small one, it just installed inside MSFS, there was no XBox-app or Store message for me. If you missed everything since september, that is Germany+SU7 you’ll be in for some gigs. And a long wait in the Content manager as well. After SU7, the CM updates cost me more time than the WU itself !
Agree on these install procedures… they seem clumsy compared to MSFS itself. But keep in mind it has to work everywhere safely, for all users. When you have an update, you can’t stop the update. From a software perspective that is logical.
Yes i don’t quite understand this too. All other simulators or games i play will alert me that there is an update and it will update itself and not to go through all the hassle to update manually. It should prompt that the version of my game is outdated and to start the download of the updates before I can continue. In this way, all players that goes online are on the latest update and may also reduce the number of crashes. I hope this can be improve.
i just updated to the version 1.21.18.0 and low and behold i cant even fly a flight ,i cant make a flight up on the globe i just picka place to fly from and one to land at and us the neo 32 i have even tried the other planes all i get when i press fly is the blue line goes all te way across then stops at end and thats it will not go no further is it is useless update can any one help me out why dose nothing work any more
And just to make it better, it failed downloading after 2 hours, then I downloaded another 30Gb, and now I have to download 75Gb of add-ons and updates…
I came back in the morning and after downloading 130+30+75Gb for a 700Mb update I suppose the game is working. I did not try yet. Overall though, it looks like I spend more time downloading and re-downloading it than playing it…
And I also have a XBox X with the game on it… I hope it will not do the same, I did not try yet to download anything there.
All, when SU7 was released, I went through update hexxxx. Finally, as I was about to just delete the game, I stumbled upon an idea which worked for me. You can search out SU7 and try to find it. Basically, you delete one folder in the game, which causes it to start over on the store and download the files again. As stated above, Content Manager is an optional thing not needed. Remember to empty the community folder.
To preclude downloading the whole game again. Once update is completed, and after you have successfully opened game and tried one test flight. Go to the Packages/Microsoft Flight Simulator… folder and copy all of it to a separate drive. Then, if necessary, you can uninstall the game, and then just copy the whole folder back to its previous location, then run the installer, it will only download anything needed to make game whole again.
