What’s with the download speed on the update? I am getting 2.5 Mbits/sec… This is going to take days…Is it just me or is anyone else experiencing the issue? Thanks
There are several regularly commented-on threads about slow download speeds for updates and Marketplace packages that have been ongoing since 2020. Different people in different locations on different networks at different times have different experiences; it’s likely to be a widespread problem with Microsoft’s servers and CDN (content distribution network) and how things are routed to and from various networks.
Your best bet is to get a VPN and try connecting via a different location to see if you get a better connection along the specific route between you and Microsoft’s servers (which may be much, much worse than your general connection speed).

Yep, very common with my 500/500 fiber internet connection in a major US city. It can actually vary from smoking hot fast to slow as a snail and oscillate between the two wildly during the same download!
Vpn’s do seem to help some but it doesn’t make a difference in my case..
Every update since SU12 (for me) has been a mess of slowness…
For on of the biggest ‘games’ out there it’s a shame to be honest. I’m really curious how the are gonna fix this for MSFS2024 which would be a big cloud based ‘game’ …
update: and what i really don’t get is when i download something within msfs2020 everything on my pc turns slow. But when i leave the sim and f.i. download something else, the speed is back.
This issue does have a post in the Bug Report section if people want to cast a vote on it. It has been noticed and marked as bug logged so that’s a positive. It’s definitely grating on me this one. It took me no joke about 4-5hrs yesterday to get all the updates. Seems ludicrous to have to get a VPN. Pretty insane that it seems to tax the hardware so heavily in the process to get a measly 2mbps.
