Exactly same problem - MSFS won’t start. I even left MSFS running for the whole night, but it is still stuck at “Checking for Updates” in the morning. Never had any issues before…
And yes, I have moved all my Community folder out of the way so it’s not that…

Here is how I finally solved the problem. I uninstalled MSFS. I also uninstalled the XBOX platform which is used to download games and updates. I then reinstalled a clean version of XBOX. I have a FS - Store version. I used the XBOX platform to reinstall a clean version of MSFS overnight. There! This morning everything was back to normal. I feel like there was a problem with the updater, either from XBOX or MSFS itself.
