I sent Bitsum/Process Lasso an email asking them how their software would or could help MSFS users. Thanks for the idea Edam!
Where exactly do you get the stutters? I find I get them at some airports not well optimized when I am just about to land in a place like KDCA payware with the CRJ.
Places like KLAX used to be terrible now noticeable better. Looks like ongoing improvements.3RD party devs need to step up and optimize.
This a DX11 game.Adding all that fancy eye candy on an API makes things just worse!
I get stutters pretty much everywhere. I should add though that these are micro stutters. If I’m flying along and switch to the outside camera view I can easily notice lots of very small stutters in the rendering. It used to be wonderfully smooth before the last round of big sim updates. I suspect playing with settings like task manager won’t help much (it hasn’t in the past) but I’m willing to give it another go.
I recently upgraded to 32GB from 16GB - It made a massive difference for me.
Windows was creating a pagefile.sys from 12 to 42GB when in MSFS 2020 and 16GB RAM. I had already had to set it to custom pagefile, as it was on a 240GB SSD and the max Win can use is 1/8 of the drive, so it was maxing out at 30GB. Once I set it to 52GB it made it much less stuttery, but there were still stutters and pauses during taxiing and on approaches, when the usage ramped up.
Now I have 32GB RAM, the most the pagefile.sys has used since then was 12GB a couple of times at JFK, EDDF and Heathrow. The micro stuttering has gone, with graphics set on HIGH. I did try ULTRA, but after a thunderstorm at Barcelona and trying to fly over the city gave massive drops in fps and increased stuttering, I reduced the detail level of objects and clouds.
I’ll keep trying though, I want it to look the best it can with limited budget that graphics card update was a no go and doubling the memory was feasible.
There were a lot of reasonable ebay deals, but Amazon had some warehouse memory at a good price lol :¬)
My overall impression going to 32GB was that the micro stutters where the game gets jerky where less or gone but the big ones where the game just freezes for a second or two still happen. It seems like the big stutters are caused by something other than ram
Probably with micro-stutters is there is no number you can screen shot like you can with FPS so it is an impression thing and other people are almost guaranteed to pop in and say you are imagining it ![]()
In my case it did make a difference but not to FPS or the big stutters what it seemed to do is get rid of the micro stutters that often made things a bit jerky. Other people have gone to 32Gb and seen no real difference.
Lol. There was a guy on the EKWB Facebook page asking for tips on how to watercool a stack of 3090’s (for mining)
He got properly flamed.
It’s a good card. But it runs HOT on the back. (vram) possibly even hot enough to impact performance or thermally theottle. so I put a waterblock on it and then added a waterblock from MP5 works on the backplate and it is a lot better.
No idea how things look on the market now but in early January it was the only card that I saw with reasonable waiting times up here in Sweden. (was about 1 month wait list while the 3080 was “we have no idea when we will get more” at most stores.)
Hasn’t actually made a huge amount of difference in FS2020 for me, but hot ■■■■ everything else I throw at it just flies! IL-2 in VR is butter smooth.
