Upgrade from i5 9400f

Hello,
I have the following system:

i5 9400f
RTX 3070
32Gb ram

I want to make a CPU upgrade, budget tight
I can easily switch to i5 9600k but I doubt it makes a difference.
So the question is which one is better for msfs 2020, 9600k or 9700 non k?

K simply denotes the multiplier is unlocked. I believe the 9700 is an i7 series with a larger cache, 2 more cores and hyper threading. (only the cache is helpful for MSFS at this time)

That said save your money and hold off for a more worthwhile upgrade and with the RTX card you want an at least 390 series motherboard to make use of resizable BAR. (Z-390 will need a bios flash)

Upgrade to something higher.6 cores 6threads may bottleneck the 3070 so going to a 9600k would be a waste.
What mobo did you have?
If the i9 9900k can work get that. You likely won’t get a huge performance uplift but it’s going to offer you more improvement over the 9600k but I’m guessing it’s out of your budget and don’t get a non k cpu.The sim will take advantage of the extra frequency.

Except the 9700 has no hyperthreading and the sim doesn’t really benefit from it at least atm.

9900k is way over my budget and also have a 650w bronze psu. So I have some concerns about buying 9700k which needs much more watts

I hope it’s at least a Corsair?

Yes those cpu likely use more power and 650w is bit on the low side if you plan to get something that powerful paired with a 3070.I would be more comfortable with a good brand 750w gold rating.9700k stock shouldn’t be a big issue. Whatever you decide to do do not upgrade to the 9600k.
Depends on the resolution you are running its not going to be a performance jump.If you want better performance with airliners performance and larger cities its well worth it.

Now ı checked my psu again and it is FSP hydro 700 bronze 80+

can I go with a 9700k with this one or should I get only 9700 non k?
I can not change the psu and I am not planning to make OC.
My cooler is cooler master hyper 212

It doesn’t make sense to switch to the 9 Series again. In addition, you should definitely wait to see what DX12 compatibility brings.

I’m running an i7 9700k, gtx1070,32 gig ram on a evga 650 gold pwr supply and am very happy with the results. Once DX12 is out we shall see what and if I need an upgrade. Runs beautifully at 1080p on a mix of ultra and hight settings. Cpu cooler is like yours…Hyper 212 evo(stays nice and cool)
