Upgrade from RX 6800 XT to 4080 Super OC for 4k?

Currently have MSI RX 6800 XT paired with AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D and 32 GB RAM.

Playing in 4K, I get limited by GPU and very rarely main thread limited.

I wonder if it will give any benefit to upgrade the GPU to 4080 Super OC or should I think of upgrading the CPU as well?

Using primarily PMDG 737 and FBW 320 (and upcoming 380).

5800x3d and 6900xt.
Limited a lot by CPU. A LOT
How is it possible you are GPU limited???

No hardware expert, so here are the screenshots

I would recommend upgrading the GPU first as that will last you through any upgrades down the line with the cpu/motherboard/memory.

Can you post the graphic settings.
I’m so curious now

Here are my settings. As you can see, I think I am not too agressive on high graphics settings. But again, I am no expert here.

Tried 5 minutes your settings and I started having more gpu limit. (but I’m on dx12)
I need to understand why, I’ll try this evening.

The real question is whether you should upgrade your GPU now or in 6 months.

Your graphics settings are indeed pretty moderate. How many monitors are you driving with that 6800 XT?

Every time I see a screenshot with those repetitive red spikes I think, “There’s something very wrong with the way data is being handled on that computer.”

What happens if - just as an experiment - you try 2K instead of 4K?

I overlooked those repetitive red spikes! I had that once and running the system file checker tool (SFC) cleaned up some corrupt system files & fixed the issue.

See here for more details.

SFC is one of the most valuable tools Microsoft has given Windows users.

Thanks for the tip. Just ran SFC several times but it did not find any issues (“Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.”)

Ok good to know there is no system file corruption.

Try going into Device Manager->System Devices->High Precision Event Timer and right click on it and then disable.
