Upgrade Garmin G3X to NXi Standards

I hope to see an upgrade of the G3X for the sim :+1:

Voted, this desperately needs an upgrade.

I absolutely agree, it’s a shame to have it paired next to the beautiful Nxi, G3000/5000 series.

A G3X has put me off purchasing many addon planes too because they used it and it’s just not worth for me considering what other avionics suites are capable of.

Same here. While I’m basically fine with developers using the default Garmins for their aircraft - after all, a Garmin device is a Garmin device, no need to spend time to develop the exact same thing again - the G3X is just bad and has put me off purchasing add-ons as well.

I’d be fine with paying for an upgraded G3X, especially since it’s used all over the GA world. Contract WT to do it and then offer it to users for a small fee, would be instant win-win for everyone.

I don’t understand why this topic doesn’t get more votes. There’s been a lot of lightweight aircraft released, and presumably lots of mods sold with these units, so are people happy with the functionality as it stands? I really enjoy flying these aircraft, but I’m occasionally left feeling a bit short changed.

I do have the TDS GTN in some models, (although not an option for xbox) but obviously not all support that option, with devs often citing licencing restrictions from the aircraft manufacturers. .I understand that, the mod should accurately represent the aircraft as far as possible given the limitations of the sim, but it seems having the G3X installed is good enough for the factories, regardless of functionality.

I know some devs have stated that they do not want to develop their own adaptation as it would be wasted work if Asobo/WT or whoever then include the G3X as part of an AAU. So Asobo, please put us out of our misery and let us and the devs know if this is even planned.

The G3X is another perfect candidate for WT. In real world the G3X brings a lot of nice features like synthetic vision, nexrad radar, charts/safe taxi (charts could definitely come from Navigraph reference their beta integration with other WT avionics), AoA sensor, and Garmin autopilot. While the stock G3X has some features, the look and feel of the current stock version is lackluster.

What I’d also love to see is G3X “communication” with third party GPS units such as TDS GTNxi, PMS GTN, and of course the native WT GNS. This should be possible since the real G3X is not an actual GPS, and relies on other GPS for navigational guidance.

I feel having the G3X up to “WT standards” is important because of the numerous addons and stock aircraft which make use of the G3X (either touch or non touch).

Aircraft with G3X avionics from the base sim:

King Air 350i (variant of it - real life would be ProLine Fusion)
JMB VL-3
Cub Crafters X-Cub
Flight Design CTSL
Extra 330LT (non touch)
Pipistrel Virus

Freeware aircraft using G3X:

Beast Horus
Breezer Sport
Deejing Vans RV7
Rotax 915is mod (vl3)
GotFriends Vertigo

Payware aircraft using G3X:

SWS Vans RV14 and RV10
Orbx Blackwing
Parallel 42 KitFox
Airfoillabs Bristol B23
FSReborn Sting S4
FSW upcoming mystery aircraft (Garmin avionics previewed at their Discord)
Adi Kitfox

This is a lot of aircraft using subpar avionics - and frankly I avoid most of them due to the fact that they use the G3X.

Thank you Asobo for your consideration!

Exactly this. I think third-party developers should also work on Asobo to make this a priority.

Exactly! I have the same with G3X containing planes, they just dont feel real enough.

Very much agree with all in this thread. It’s a real bummer that there are all of these nice aircraft fitted with a poor representation of the G3X. I love to keep up on what addons are being developed and there have been times I’ve completely lost interest in an addon being developed because it will be fitted with the G3X in it’s current state.

SAME Van’s are my favorite aircraft and I pretty much only fly RV-14 right now.
Wish RV-8 would get done right…

Keep sharing this thread guys. Anytime a new aircraft comes out using the G3X, I post in that thread linking here. Keep getting votes and they’ll notice!

+1. You have my vote. Asobo please update the G3X. There are far too many aircraft that use it. The super popular Cub Crafters XCubs being one of them. Bush Lelgends liveries have made that little bush plane a favorite for a lot of your customers. Don’t leave us hanging Aosbo!!!

The Garmin G3X since it went from experimental to certifed, has been a top choice for most GA aircraft avionic upgrades, a competent G3X + a GTN750 will make any aircraft an IFR Machine for a more reasonable price than previous options, and it also gives a different look than full steam or full g1000.

Also the amount of aircraft that would benefit from it, both default and from other developers, is a lot.
Pursuing this path would heavily upgrade not only this sim, but also MSFS2024, so its gonna be an investment foor that too

Since this equipment shares looks with the G3000, I hoped that it would have been included for AAU2, There is a bigger and growing market on GA and experimental aircraft that are making the G3X not only shown, but a benchmark for GA, and it would be a lost potential, to not develop it.
Lets show it some support

This is a good idea a LOT of planes use the G3X so it is one task that will multiplex its benefits.
I’m sure WT has this in their Radar but it is good to have it here just in case.

G3X. +add to Icon A5 with a AP to bring it up to spec
Diamond aircraft Fadec’s

Hi Everyone. This is a #msfs:wishlist thread related to making the G3X improved just like the other Garmins. Please do not ask for Technical Support about the G3X here. Those help threads have been moved accordingly.

There are other threads within #gd-commsupport:general-discussion subforums for that, please search for them there.Thanks.

Just now seeing this thread. I think one of the reasons it doesn’t get more traction is because of ignorance on the part of many relatively new simmers like myself. As I’ve never seen a proper G3X, I didn’t know what the sim version was missing. From reading this thread, sounds like it’s missing a lot.

Check out a youtube video on the real g3x and you’ll see just how powerful it is in real life. For instance, https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/aOc6dnfSs_c

Thanks for that. Wow, I would have never guessed you could view individual cylinders & have lean assist with it. That’s an impressive little unit.

Oh no I wish I hadn’t seen that. Now the sim version feels even worse…
