Upgrade msfs2020 to 2024

I have MSFS2020 deluxe installed and was intending to upgrade to MSFS2024 in July.
I have listed my rig below and also intend upgrading the ram from 32 to 64.

Any suggestions please.

Agree with @AntonioCN70 advise. At least wait until SU3. Right now the sim has too many issues, and it depends A LOT on what type of flight you do and if you use 3rd party tools or not. For example, if you mostly fly the A320 Fenix and use Vatsim or IVAO for ATC you’re going to find less issues than using the full sim.

Right now, I would stay with 2020. Personally I’m in XP12 in the meantime, and will try again after SU3, but most probably the sim won’t meet the expected product until SU4 or later.

About your GPU, I’d suggest going for a 16GB VRAM GPU at least, ideally more. I recently switched from a 6800XT to a 7900XTX because I found one on sale, and I can testify that I’ve used 22GB VRAM. As for the CPU, as usual MSFS is very fond on 3D cache that AMD X3D CPUs have. And the multicore isn’t very significant really, I don’t see a “real” multicore usage with 2024.

In short, I would stay away at least until SU3, probably until SU4. In the meantime you can upgrade your rig slowly and patiently.

I don’t see 24 as an upgrade, per se; I have both and fly in both regularly. They do different things, differently. There is DLC that is only in 2020, so keeping that around for some time to come. Broadly speaking, I fly airliners and high performance GA in 2020, and GA plus some airliner flight in 24. As 24 improves, there is more overlap, but no reason to ditch 2020 yet. And what pilot does not like having system redundancy and a back-up plan?

I have a system like yours and am running 2020 with no issues and am enjoying it very much.
I fly mainly GA, helicopters and still figuring out the stock A320.
I am in no rush to get 2024.

I mean there’s pros and cons to both FS2020 and FS2024, but i’d also wouldn’t call it an upgrade unfortunately…
Personally i like the improved lighting, ground physics and the idea of the career mode (and even more so the idea of RB Air races), but also it has a ton more bugs and annoyances than FS2020 had, RB Air Races never been implemented etc.. It’s really a hit and miss at the moment and while i initially enjoyed the “upgrade”, nowadays i’m also one of those claiming “You’re not missing much by sticking to FS20 for now”, which has it’s very own advantages (mostly high fidelity 3rd party aircraft being 100% compaitble).

I’ve just upgraded my system to include RTX5070 and still sorting the bugs.
But my old system was RTX3060 with AMD Ryzen 7 5800X which ran MSFS2020 just fine, even with a Pimax Crystal, although of course I couldn’t maximise the graphics. Eventually decided to go for MSFS2024 and to my surprise, using a little help from Utubers, it ran as good as, if not better than, MSFS2020.

Keep in mind you can take MSFS 2024 for a test drive by purchasing 1 month of Xbox GamePass for almost nothing. It will install independently of MSFS 2020 so you can have both sims installed at the same time.

This way, you can find out how your existing rig will work on the new sim with minimal effort, time and money :+1:
