Looking to upgrade my VR hardware to something better. As the title says i want the Pimax 8K and of course need the hardware to run it but has anyone got any thoughts on Pimax 8K or even use it as i am keen to know your experiences or what alternative do you recommend please.
No experience of the Pimax itself but VR in 8k is going to need a fair amount of GPU grunt.
Are you looking at a 3090 ti or waiting for the 4xxx series? (Or whatever the AMD equivalent is)
don’t let the name fool you
@Philwhite100 do you mean the 8k, 8k+ or 8kX?
But I assume it’s about the current 8kx?
Very important for the new models (Rev.2) in stores, they currently only work with Nvidia cards!!!
Starting with the 2080ti/3070, you can achieve acceptable frame rates at small FOV (125 degrees horizontal). I would recommend a 3080ti though. (The additional memory is noticeable in the resolutions. The non-ti 3080 isn’t much better than an overclocked 2080ti.) With the 3080Ti you should achieve between 38-45 FPS at approx. 3100 pixels vertically without re-projection. As for the CPU I would say, up from a 10700k or AMD equivalent with fast RAM (3400cl16 or better).
Note that FS2020 itself does not yet support WFOV HMDs. For a healthy look, you should use the OpenXR Toolkit to minimize frustrum culling.
I tried 8k PLUS and went back to Quest 2.
No big difference in game use, big difference in wallet and huge fps impact. HUGE
There are 2 versions of the 8kx available on the Pimax website, so it needs a close look at the GPU cards and buy accordingly. A subscription to Process Lasso Pro would probably enhance CPU usage too. My setup i7 9700K 3.6 32GB rtx2080 works well .. previous VR headset HP Reverb replaced with 8kx due to refular 7-14 errors that are not a problem with Pimax
the free version is enough for simple gaming
@GIEI - you should not compare the 8k+ with the 8kx. The 8k+ only uses 1440p upscaled to 4k, so it’s comparable to the Quest2 except for slightly less SDE.
Performance is purely a matter of setting. The Pimax is not a typical consumer out of the box device. Admittedly, it takes some technical effort at first.
If you can afford it the Varjo Aero is simply unmatched when used with msfs, the clarity is beautiful. No more blurry objects at distance, cockpits are crystal clear, shimmer is very little or non existent. You’ll really need a 3080ti/3090 though to be able to run at its maximum resolution.
