So is 2020 affected by this issue? Who can say for certain?
Has Anything emerged from Official Microsoft/Asobo sources yet with so much as an Apology or explanation?
Is there any way to opt out of the beta before connecting the pc to the internet?
The normal way via insider hub is only working when the pc has internet.
Loosing the community folder would not be such a big deal for me due to addon linker, but I have many custom control profiles that I would hate to lose
I’m not making any excuses for anyone responsible for pushing this update. I don’t think it was intentional, but if it was
{placing my own thoughts here}.
Even though I didn’t lose anything, except settings, I feel sorry for those that did.
I am also upset as of now we haven’t heard anything back from one of the comminity managers and that there wasn’t a WARNING banner placed at the top of the forum!
I do commend those in this thread for helping others.
Especially hobanagerik
Even though this mess has had terrible consequences, there is light here with the community pulling together.
I havent even turn on my PC in the last few days, just from being busy with real life events. Guess I will take this weekend off and see what occurs on Monday.
Not for everyone, at least if you were never in the most recent FS2020 beta or didn’t - as I did - exit that beta in the XBox Insiders hub, which I did. I haven’t been able to launch FS2020 at all this morning, getting silent CTDs with every attempt, even in Safe Mode and an empty Community folder.
I’m currently doing a full reinstall of 2020. Not sure if that will make a difference but since I can’t launch FS2020 at all anyway, what have I got to lose?
Yeah that’s how I look at things when things go wrong. Sorry this mess has affected you and others regarding FS2020. Simply stunning.
I left FS2020 beta when they stopped pushing updates. I haven’t started it since this latest fiasco.
Well, I have left the beta via the insider hub and when it said that unenrolling from the beta was completed, I restarted my pc. Now MSFS is completely uninstalled
Edit: now I am in an install loop where I can’t reinstall msfs at all, the installer is only throwing an error. I just wanted to fly my first full ifr flight on vatsim in a long time as my free time is currently quite limited and this is just brutally frustrating.
I should have as well, or simply left well enough alone this morning with regard to 2020. The '24 situation hit me already and forced a full reinstall - fortunately I use Addons Linker 2024 and was able to simply re-link my Community content. I did have to spend a few minutes disabling conflicting streamed content and re-enable my Marketplace stuff. I honestly haven’t checked my control bindings but I have reinstalled '24 several times since launch and my controls have generally been preserved.
seems like there is no end to unnecessary bugs due to unnecessary streaming and online “features” shall we calle them?
Nevermind, profit and copy protection is much more important i guess?
Is it just me or did the folder got renamed from “limitless” to “FlightSimulator2024” ?
Who recommends C drive and why? You can install the game launcher wherever you want as MS Store allows the custom installation of any application by means of the drive selection. Mine for instance is not a C drive, but at F drive, so at “F:\XboxGames\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024”. You can´t change the path definition, but you can definitely change the target drive during the installation process.
As you wrote, I also have my Community folder at another location different to C (F:\Flight Simulator 2024\Community).
The important topic here is that, in case someone is not using a custom location for Community, the addons will be stored at the C drive, because that´s the default location for all the user data created for this game and for any other MS Store application. A launcher uninstallation or a problem like the one reported in this thread can delete all those files, including therefore your addons.
A launcher reset via MS Store will do the same, as it will restore it to the default state, where no files shall still exist there. When you use a custom location such resets will delete the files as well, but in that case you will only lose the local profile data, which will be downloaded from cloud anyway, but not the Community addons themselves.
Just to clarify I did not suggest to move any files to other locations, only to use the custom paths. Changes on launcher will therefore not affect your custom Comminity location. That custom location is exlusively managed by game core (as part of UserCfg.opt file), not by MS Store.
Cheers
I launched from MS store and that fixed it for me. Very scary though.
I was in shock seeing the community folder and the official folders gone. Loosing about 2 hours of precious time downloading some addons again. Would be more than a day if I wouldn’t use Addon-Linker for most of my addons.
Oh My God I’m not happy… all the screenshots I took since I’ve been using the game are now gone and un-restorable. (Plus my community folder is obviously empty as well but at least , this I can fix but all my wallpapers are gone…)
Let me tell you, I WILL NEVER EVER USE THE PHOTO MODE IN MSFS2024 AGAIN AND I WILL PROBABLY PARK THE GAME FOR A WHILE…
Can’t they at least put a sticky at the top of the forum saying they’re aware and working on the problem ?
You won’t lose your custom profiles (at least we haven’t). But back up your community folder – always a best practice.
One would think the MSFS devs would post something… but just crickets.
Just change it back. It didn’t delete the community folder, rather it created another one with the original path.
All settings are gone, though, including custom cameras
Yup it’s beyond me. We’ve had issues before and they have been ok keeping us updated. But when one of the worst things happen, they are nowhere to be found. Shocking.
This also happened to non-beta participants too. It is not a beta issue.
That’s because they are all off for the weekend spending the money they made from us fools that bought 24!
