This is why it’s called “patch tuesday”.

I think this is more of a Friday (starts with an f and ends in a k) up,
something that seems quite common among flight simulator software houses.

I find that hard to believe. Has this happened to anyone else?

Sadly, I dont have a lot of time to sim these days. Came down for an hour while my weekly childcare (gramma) comes over. Start the sim. Initiates the 8.7gig download. I see this post. Pause it. Leave the beta. Restart PC. The sim is gone. I launch MS Store. Resume the download (only option). Start the Sim. All settings are reset. Everything disabled/streamed in content manager is reset. So I disable a few things. Close the sim. Restart the sim. Initiages 8.7 gig download again… common. An hour later, my time has passed. Until next week I suppose.

It is quite possible if both were installed into the same folder.

You can’t install in the same folder. Nor would it uninstall 2020 from 2024 (beta). It probably was deleted due to the same problem here because the 2020 installer has the same issues with just deleting everything.

And again, being in the beta has nothing to do with the deleting of all files. It was just unfortunate a change was pushed to beta. This can happen in both retail and beta and in 2020/2024.

Deleting the community folder sounds more believable if both 2020 and 2024 were using the same community folder.

It was a mistake for Seedy to not place a banner at the top of the forum and linking to this thread, The banner could have very well have saved many from a big headache. Banners have been placed for issues that were much less urgent than this.

In other threads I noticed some were not aware of what happened and thought this was the SU2 beta release.

Aslo a link pointing to his post, in the marked as solved notification we are all seeing when we post, would have been helpful.

When Seedy made the post they were aware settings, and the community folder could be lost.

That’s my biggest beef with the communication regarding this mess thus far.

Other than that, I slept on it and I am no longer bothered by the fact I had to reset my settings after the install and reenable the stuff in my library in the marketplace. My community folder was not affected, and it only took about a half hour to get everything back to the way it was.

But I feel for those that lost everything in their community folder.

I was using the sim when the “update” happened Friday. Saw this thread later that night. This morning, I did a pc restart, reloaded my addons in the now empty Community folder and had an issue free 2 hour flight. Minor inconvenience but sim seems fine now

It would have been worse if it was 2020. 24 is a pretty small download compared to the overnight download 20 is.

How’s that multi-day investigation going?

I’m envisioning large magnifying glasses and a pack of blood hounds.

I’m still firmly in the camp of ‘they know they have us where they want us’. Many of us have already paid, and I’m sure they get new purchasers every day. They also know that when they release SU2, they’ll get a few more people buying in. And then that day will come when the YT streamers and many people on these boards declare that it was a long road, but finally we have a usable product. And THAT day is when people will begin to flood into FS24 and begin buying on the MP.

MS and Asobo can wait until that day, and in the meantime, things like this really don’t matter to them at all - thus the lack of communication. They have the deep pockets to let US be the ones who have to suffer through this.

FOMO is real, and they know it.

If that is so, why have this Forum at all? If they just want to sell games and pocket the profits, why bother hosting this nice place for folks to complain?

Yep, automated updated were ticked in the Xbox app. Thankfully all my “serious” simming is done in fs20!

@hobanagerik ‘s post above was informative: I have since unchecked those boxes in the Xbox App, that way the next time an erroneous update comes back around, I might be able to catch it before anything bad happens.

Yes, but gone3d said the install and community folder. Which it really can’t do.

Well, it did happen, and I posted about it in the beta forums that are now archived so I can’t find the post. I think I remember seeing this happened to one other person as well. I have one C: drive and everything installed in the default locations. The only thing I can think that may have been related is that when 2024 came out I wanted to see if my 2020 marketplace purchases would work so I copied all the official files but accidentally pasted them into the 2020 community folder when I meant to paste them into the 2024 community folder. When the 2024 SU1 Beta was released, it nuked the whole 2020 install.

Your community folder could and will be wiped if they are using the same obviously. But, your 2020 install itself wont be deleted by 2024 (beta or retail) it simply can’t do that. Both 20 and 24 installers are problematic though.. But not for deleting eachothers files.
