I have Oculus Rift S, with beeps and disconnections. Could it be that using a USB HUB connected to the electrical current does not cause these disconnections?
Currently I use the USB HUB connected to the computer
I’ve been dealing with this since I bought the Rift S. I’ve whined endlessly on the Oculus forum to no avail. I don’t know if it is the cord, the headset itself, or problems with Windows and USB connections. I had an older laptop a few years back that lost USB connections all the time with Win10, also. I wonder if this is a Windows problems. It would seem like a lot more others would have the issue, however. Quite a few people have complained but it would seem it is some particular combination of hardware and Win10 perhaps?
No fixes for it I have found. I always get a flash or freeze in my headset, and I know it’s coming then bam, black screen. I pause the sim, take off the headset, (there will be a warning on Oculus app that the USB is disconnected) unplug the USB, plug it back in, I then get a display adapter disconnect warning, so I have to unplug and re-plug in the display adapter, put the headset back on, reset my position and continue on. (But sometimes it will cause a CTD)
It’s great when it happens at the inner marker while flying online or for a VA.
As I have said elsewhere, the first company who makes a good, stable, VR headset specifically dialed in for MSFS2020 (or maybe for flight sim in general) is going to get rich, I think.
It is true. Many Oculus users have this problem and some have solved it by adding an externally powered usn, others by changing the cable and others by throwing the Oculus in the trash.
Got a Powered USB HUB 3.0 for 15 quid on Amazon and solved the issue for me
I got one. It doesn’t work. I even bought an adapter so I could plug the Rift S into it and then plug it in to my USB-C port. Guess what? The USB no longer comes disconnected but the display adapter is still disconnecting! As there is no adapter for the display adapter, I guess I am screwed and would probably feel better about it if I were to beat it with a ball bat.
Did you get one with enough A for the rift? Is it a 3.0 hub? You need both…
Also sometimes it is worth to restart the OCULUS service (Google it) for me that resolve when the rift gets stuck on the three dots time to time.
If you mean a blue 3.0, yes it’s blue. I also have cyan 3.0 port that is allegedly “VR-ready” which I see makes no difference at all from regular USB ports. I can’t make a flight at all without this thing disconnecting about every 7 minutes. I wanted to buy a new Rift S, but I think the problem is with Windows 10 and USB port issues. I had an old Dell laptop with Win10 on it back around 2013 and it constantly lost USB connections. Maybe it’s due to that.
But like I said, the USB C port fixed the USB disconnect (so far) but now the display adapter is still disconnecting. And if this occurs, instead of being able to re-plug in everything, the display adapter just fails every time to re-connect from the black screen. At least with the standard USB, I am able to re-connect both. But every seven minutes is simply not usable. Just when MSFS2020 finally gets to SU10 and is running well, all my VR kicks out from under me now.
I have been trying to solve this since the first month I bought the Rift S two years ago. I also bought a Q2 and that thing is nothing but a bunch of flashing and carrying on. Shaking and fragile is the display I’m getting. Very clear, but I cant move my head at all or the entire display glitches every time I do, as if the headset is damaged maybe. I have no idea. This is well beyond frustrating. It’s about my only hobby in life and I can’t even do it now. I’ve tried all solutions. I don’t have money for a new rig. I bought this one 2 years ago especially for this sim, but it was the biggest waste of money I ever made in my life and I regret the purchase everything I bought. Oculus company doesnt make the Rift S anymore and the Q2 is a head torture device to even wear, and Oculus never did manage to fix the disconnect problem so many people have with this junk.
I would say I’d keep using the sim for novelty GA flights, but if I cant hold a cord for 7 minutes, I guess that’s the end of me and my hobby after 40 years of using MSFS. I am done getting kicked around by this and I’ve had enough. So much for MSFS, DCS and XP12 and all the add-ons I bought that goes with it. I’m such an idiot buying any of this. Very depressed…
Thanks for your attempt at help. And I’m totally un-installing all of this. Maybe I’ll go back to play minesweeper and solitaire. heh. Later.
I am going from memory, but I believe I used the oculus tray tool to disable “USB Selective Suspend” in the power options section to resolve the issue. Probably other ways to do it other than the OTT. Worth a try anyway.
It had something to do with windows disabling USB ports based on power usage or something like that.
After 6 months without being able to fly in VR with Oculus Rift S due to the disconnection problem, I have done 3 things and it works for now:
1: Energy in High Performance.
2: Launch the MsFs from the Oculus app.
3: buy a 3 Usb HUB plugged into the mains.
Yesterday a failure in dis hours.
Thanks. I’ll give it a shot.
