I have had Sky dolly for a while but only just started getting back into using it, I find the ability to do formation flying pretty awesome, I seem to have no problem just using 2 aircraft but i believe you can fly up to 10 before it starts to affect frame rate, so Today I thought I would have a go ad doing an interesting formation flight with the Vulcan as the lead aircraft with a C-17, Hunter and Meteor, I recoded the Vulcan sequence and the C-17 but when I went to record the Hunter sequence only the C-17 (and the Hunter) were visible. I might be doing something wrong as like I say have not used it for a while and have never tried to do more than 2 aircraft. Is there a particular method to show all the aircraft in the formation?
Cheers.
No, there is no particular method: all aircraft should simply show up. If they don’t, then there is a bug somewhere (either in Sky Dolly or MSFS or the aircraft model…).
That being said: helicopters for instance (those that implement the “helicopter model” as introduced with SU 11, that is) are known not to work in formation flight. They simply cannot be “spawned as AI aircraft”. That is a current technical limitation in MSFS itself.
So again: in general any aircraft (except helicopters for now) should show up. And each recorded aircraft can be a different type (as in your example). And there is no technical limit in Sky Dolly itself (except practical limits such as CPU, RAM, disk space of course… and the maximum signed integer number that can be represented with 64bit - but that one is huge ;)) as to how many aircraft (each with its own aircraft type) you can record. You will rather hit some MSFS specific limits first (e.g. the “number of SimConnect objects” in the entire scenery is limited to a couple of hundred, or so I understand).
Perhaps try with another aircraft (other than the Vulcan): could be that there is some bug in the Vulcan code that prevents it from being spawned “as AI aircraft”?
(Unfortunately I do not own the Vulcan myself yet, so I cannot reproduce this - but I did a recording a couple of months ago, recording all MSFS stock aircraft in one big formation flight. That worked as expected).
