Yes it is an issue. there is a difference in growing a sense of humor by telling a person a joke or making a joke of a person you do not know, regardless of the weather.

I have an acquaintance who is a winemaker
 His wine happens to be vegan. When one customer asked if his wine is vegan, the winemaker posted a response on social media dangling a piece of bacon over it with a caption “Well, to our horror we realized our wine was in fact vegan, but THERE, I fixed it for ya!” That prompted a flurry of insufferable responses and some sort of a silly crusade from the vegans to “boycott” his wine. I (and many others) thought it was HILARIOUS. Your reaction reminds me of THAT. :wink: I wish people would lighten up a bit and appreciate some dry humour once in a blue moon, no? Or are you not familiar with some of the best British humour out there? I highly recommend.

I am curious about how many kia the fixed undercarriage on the BN-2 costs it when it is cruising.
ie, at the same MP, mixture & throttle setting, with a retracted u/c, [ignoring the extra weight for the u/c gear], how much quicker would it fly, cruising at say 9,000’?

It looks like SU4 has fixed the issue of downloading from the Marketplace with the Islander addon installed.

Can anyone else confirm?

Incidentally, it also looks like installed Community mods appearing as uninstalled has also been fixed.

I just tested the Islander at OERK on 15R. I followed the whole approach on GPS, and just as it passed RK408, and the nose dropped I switched to VLOC. Everything was great all the way down till I got to 1.8nm out. All of a sudden the plane pitched down, and it dropped off the glide slope. Then about 10 seconds later it pitched up again to recover. I added power to assist, and it was back on the glide slope again.

I’ll now try EDDG RWY07.

I just did an ILS in to AYPY and it did not miss a beat spot on all the way down :slightly_smiling_face:

I tried to slow it right back as well 2 stages of flap and 62 knts approach speed and it was spot on the Glide Slope and alignment to the runway was perfect.

Maybe this is an Airport specific type of thing. The other ILS approaches I have done with this else where seem to have been fine as well, maybe I have not found that problematic airport yet.

You can hide the yoke by the top left button that runs around the base of the yoke.

I’ve just finished testing at EDDG, and I think the issue is the AP. It can’t seem to cope with any kind of crosswind. Even when I set the weather to clear, but didn’t remove the default wind layer of 2kts it was off centre.

Here is what I saw with Live Weather:


I then turned went to clear skies, same approach:



Now Clear Skies, with the wind layer deleted. It was further off than this, and kind of darted in sharply as I approached the threshold:

I don’t seem to have a screenshot for it but I then tried with a steady 10kt crosswind, and it was hopeless. The other issue it has is it very easy loses the glide slope, and never recovers. In fact it doesn’t seem to attempt to recover. As I increased, and reduced throttle, I should see the plane attempting to maintain the glideslope by pitching down as I increase throttle. The throttle now controls my airspeed. That doesn’t seem to work properly here.

I did not see this with an RNAV approach, and it did maintain the slope, and pitch correctly as I throttled up, and back.

I am now going to retest this with the 172SP, just to make sure this isn’t some general AP issue.

In the Islander I was in the grass at this point.

Now back to the Islander for the an RNAV approach, same 10kt crosswind on the ground.

The biggest change I can see immediately is the trim wheel behaviour. Its smooth, and reacts as I adjust the throttle.

As you can see, RNAV approaches work perfectly, and the AP has no problems with staying on the runway:

Now try it with wind. Try a 10kt crosswind like I had.

I doubt it. I flew the same approach in the Cessna 172, and it handled it with ease. The AP is not compensating correctly for the wind. It stays off course, and gets worse as the wind increases.

But it doesn’t drift. It seems to maintain the course, it just doesn’t align with the runway, as my images show.

When I removed the wind entirely, only then did it make it over the threshold, though even then it was slightly off centre, but no more than the 172 was when over the numbers with a 10kt crosswind so I’ll forgive it that. :slight_smile:

The issue with vertical guidance is strange. Compare ILS with RNAV. With RNAV I can see the trim wheel smoothly adjusting as I bring in power. It pitches down as I throttle up, and pitches up as I throttle down.

When on the ILS approach, the trim wheel is jittering around, but doesn’t seem to compensate for power. Too little, and it just drifts downwards, and doesn’t seem to trim correctly. Power up, and you rise above the slope, with no apparent attempt to trim downwards.

The 172 does not behave like this. I tried really hard to knock the 172 off the localiser, throttling up/down randomly, bringing in flaps. Each time it correctly adjusted trim to maintain the correct descent angle, just like the Islander does on an RNAV approach. The only point I managed to get the 172 to budge was as I throttled back so far I was close to stalling, and by then I had trimmed up so far I could no longer see the horizon, and even then it was still close to the slope. Throttling up then brought the nose back down, and a stable approach was established once more.

Hmmmm I think more testing required. I just tried the same airport as @hobanagerik tried EDDG with live weather, which should have given me a wind at 2100@11 kt so it was about 5 to 6 knots across using runway 25 as I did, it should favour that runway. But I ended up with the same result as he did in this case. I left it as late as I could but I would have landed on the grass.
In this case some of it may have been my fault as I did get a little slow in the approach. However having said that I am sure it would have got me down to the DA(H) ok and I would have been able to correct fine from there and safely.

You are right in that at no point were these un-correctable. With wind it kind of acts like the issue with LDA approaches, where the localiser is not aligned with the runway heading. They never work correctly, no matter the plane you choose.

I think I’ll pick another airport, at random, with my same 10kt crosswind, just in case there is something weird with EDDG.

Yeah agreed, as on the approach at EDDG with that cross wind the vertical guidance was no where near as solid as it was at AYPY where I only had a 6 knot headwind.

Same result at KBOI, Boise Idaho. Clear Skies 10kt crosswind. I also had the same problem with the vertical guidance. Once it loses it, it never recovers, and will constantly over shoot as I add, and remove power. It just doesn’t seem to trim aggressively enough.

RNAV by comparison:

I can’t tell the wind from that shot, sadly. I tried to include that in all my shots of the 530 so you could clearly see the wind the AP is fighting. Oh, and ATIS lies. :slight_smile:

An 18kt wind from the left should be causing your nose to be be pointing over to the left, yet you appear to be perfectly aligned with it. As far as I know the AP will crab, and not side slip.

There is also the fact that the wind as shown in the weather page, for example, is actually halved at ground level. So to get that 18kts on the ground, manually you would need 36kts.

In my 10kt crosswind examples above, I had to configure a 20kt wind to achieve that.

Although I have the 530 mod installed, the latest SU4 compatible one, it was in both the Islander, as well as the 172 I chose as a comparison, for that very reason. Same GPS in both cases, and the 172 doesn’t have this problem.

Try it yourself. Chose Clear Sky, alter the wind to be coming from either left or right, at 20kts, and remove gusts. That will give you a steady 10kt crosswind.

cursing on autopilot at 4000 feet
I used close to 16 gal in 30 min, a little high but I was going faster than you recommend.
I think what confused me is the furl flow gauges.
As they have 2 x arrows I assumed it is using this much per tank?
So when both arrows are pointing at 25 gal/hour I am now assuming the TOTAL fuel flow is 25 gal per hour?
